Why would early Christianity needed to have opposed homosexuality for political reasons when it was openly accepted in Roman society?

Homophobia is a social view that stems not from political reasoning, but because it is an unnatural state of being that is contrary to our morality and biology. No I haven't read the book.

It isn't though. It is being subverted by outsiders and insiders in the same ways Whites are.

eh, sounds like a stretch. There are some things like Sodom and Gomorrah which don't neatly line up with the idea that they were destroyed purely for sodomy, they were trying to rape angels who were also guests in the town.
But this definitely wasn't a major issue for the Bible like Christians today make it to be. There's only sparse mentions of sodomy being condemned, and only one condemning women for it. They were far more interested in condemning doing work on the Sabbath, that's even in the 10 commandments. I'm pretty sure nearly all Christians break this rule based on what the Bible considers "work" on the Sabbath.

Actually the whole gay issue is one of the reasons that I finally left that religion. It's completely obvious to anybody objectively observing the things around them that being gay is not a choice.

No, that's something you made up because as much of an asshole as you are, even you know that condemning somebody for something they were born with and can't control is a cruel thing to do. We're not sure why some people are gay and others are, and it could very well be a combination of genetic and environmental factors. At least be honest lol. And it's observed in nature as well so the idea that there's some scheme to indoctrinate people into homosexuality is rendered even more retarded.

They're condemned for acting out on their bad impulses like a person hearing voices in their head telling them to kill isn't going to burn but the one that acts out on it will. You have control over your actions.

There's nothing making it "bad" besides a barbaric, contradictory old book saying an invisible man there is no evidence for doesn't like it. Only a moron takes that seriously.

All humans want sex and companionship, to deny that to gay people just because an old book says it's bad is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.

            > just live your entire life a sexless, romantically devoid husk or get with a woman who you aren't attracted to sexually and will never love!!! Problem solved bro!!!

So what if someone has sex with men? "Ancient book says it's bad" is a moronic reason to think something is wrong, especially when that same book has no problem with slavery and mass child slaughter. If your book takes the time to ban mixed fabrics and shellfish but not slavery, it belongs in the dustbin of history.

That'd be fine if Christians weren't constantly trying to impose their dumb "morality" on everyone else. If they had their way, a lot of them would ban and even criminalize homosexual activity. That's the reason there's such a pushback, if they kept their barbaric beliefs to themselves and didn't try to legislate them, no one would care.

No, it is generally something forced onto low status males. Most self proclaimed gay males are just guys the women hated growing up so they are so fucked in the head they can't even imagine being with a woman. I would say a very minor fraction are gay from birth and most are just reacting to a dire situation they find themselves in where women would not approach them (prison gay).

If you actually read what the Bible says on issues of sex, you'll recognize that the problem with fornication was that you were sullying somebody's future wife. And with adultery, you are of course sullying somebody else's property. It's very likely they did not see homosexuality as sexuality at all. Just men helping each other masturbate. Also which is not pointed out of sinful in the Bible.

The idea of homosexuality being sinful is only a new age idea. The Bible only mentions sex with boys being wrong and men sexually gratifying each other in honor of pagan gods -- which was a very common ritual. Every single time it is brought up it is in a list or in reference to a pagan ritual ceremony.

Furthermore, the view of sex in biblical times was akin to being hungry for a sandwich would be today. And of course if you are hungry, you are not going to go steal someone else's sandwich (adultery), nor would you take a sandwich that was prepared and yet to be assigned or bought by anybody (fornication).

If your buddy offered you his banana then it's not an issue. Sex issues in the Bible were about ownership. And they would see modern times' aversion to it as silly we would see banning eating sandwiches.

I agree, Christianity is a fully and vocally pro-LGBTQ religion. Jesus would have said gay and trans rights matter.

The Bible seems to heavily imply "if it feels wrong in your heart" then it's a sin, given that so much of it is up for interpretation. For example "sexual immorality" could mean fucking anything, but in your heart of hearts, you have an idea of what that means. The problem is, does what you think "sexual immortality" means matter? Surely not. Surely it's only God's will that matters. So why do we have this personal interpretation anyways? Well, if you possess enough "faith" you will have the answer revealed to you in your own head.

        >The Bible seems to heavily imply "if it feels wrong in your heart" then it's a sin, given that so much of it is up for interpretation.
I don't know that that's true though. In fact it specifically declares the heart is deceitful among all things. For instance, a feminist might feel that she's doing a good deed by spreading feminism to impressionable young girls. I think the Bible more implies being led by the Holy Spirit then the heart.

And just like the feminist believes that she is doing a good deed by spreading feminism, the person declaring gay men sinful thinks they are also spreading a holy and good message. But that also is not supported by scripture so it should be at least tempered. Of course we feel that having gay sex is bad because we were raised in a society that told us such a thing was bad. We were not born knowing this. And had it never been mentioned to us, we might find as disgusting as someone eating a food that disgusts us -- if we are straight. But just as we don't find it evil to eat something we find disgusting, we would not declare it evil, naturally.

My church leans toward "any thought that is not bible-tier holiness" is a demon trying to fuck with you. I know that many sinful acts in my life have brought me joy and zero guilt. I don't know how I'm supposed to frame this in order to properly be Christian. Is it worse to pretend to have guilt but actually feel none? The Bible is very far from clear enough on any subject. There is a very strong degree of willingness involved with interpretation.

            >There is a very strong degree of willingness involved with interpretation.
That's fair enough. It seems to rely on the Holy Spirit to guide you more than it does the words on the page, for sure. Of course how do we know it is our deceitful heart talking or the Holy Spirit? I suppose that can't be explained.

              Anonymous

Yeah so for me once you get to this point, it seems trying to conceptualize your sin becomes a total waste of time because you could just be self-flagellating for no purpose when God is actually cool with you. So instead, I just focus on joy and whatnot. I figure I'll just put all my energy into goodness and yeah I'll have some sins along the way but I'm not a fucking sin accountant and life would be awful trying to keep track of all of it so I don't. Meanwhile lots of my friends are constantly feeling awful because they are worried about things being sins.

I had a legitimate encounter with God and am a Christian at the age of 28. Was a life long atheist. I have little knowledge of Christianity and want to do it right, because that is the God I encountered. Every time I do even a little bit of thinking about theology though, I just end up with 100 unanswered questions when I initially just had 1 question.

From my point of view, and what you're saying makes a lot of sense to me, I think all we need is the sermon on the mount. And in fact that's pretty much all Christians had for decades. Whenever I'm confused by something I simply go back to the sermon on the mount and everything becomes clear. These are the laws God wrote on every man's heart.

Drank so much alcohol that my organs failed, kidneys stopped processing water had a fuckton of water on the brain, lungs stopped working, heart stopped, this was all from the hangover I actually survived the drinking part but died while sobering up. I was not on the ceiling or anything, I was just above my body. Then I saw the light and there was an entity within it, it wasn't hot or cold, it was a stern judgement type of feel to it. I communicated with this entity, was more of a 1 way conversation because I was being instructed to never fuck up again pretty much. I went back into my body and I have not had a drink since.

I have no organ damage after 10 years of black out drinking every single day of my life. In fact, I was perfectly healthy the next day. An utter fucking miracle. My liver/gallbladder has been in pain for YEARS.

It was wild too, when I left my body, my "self" was immediately separate from my senses which I cannot even put into words but wow fuck I truly thought your "self" was just your senses and memories but the way my "self" was separated screams to me that souls are real.

It was an immediate "Oh fuck God is real, I have massively fucked up" situation.
