is this a real question? something seized and the belt died - probably because you ignored terrible noises

im not a car guy. can i still drive it? it was still running but i turned the engine off

You don't have to be "a car guy" to look under the hood to find a broken belt.

you can limp a few miles home or whatever but the battery will die. if your water pump is belt driven it might overheat - don't do that cause it may wreck the engine. just look under the hood at all the belt driven accessories - one of them is probably not spiny anymore.

yeah the belt broke. how do i know if the coolant is belt driven? it's the 6vd1 engine, im looking online but cant find that info so far.
i'm in south dakota but i live in wi

it's on the timing belt afaict so it wouldn't run at all without the waterpump

so what does AFAIKmean? are you guessing or are you sure?

the accessory belt broke not the timing belt

Water upmp isn't timing driven, it's not a honda engine. it's either an opel 2.2 i4 or an isuzu 3.2l v6

              here are pics i took

Don't drive it, the water pump is belt driven.

here's the serpentine belt routing diagram which matches what i see in the engine bay.
why did you say the serpentine belt ran the water pump? it clearly does not

u rarted? clearly the 'fan pulley' is the water pump

                Anonymous

the fan pulley is the fan. the water pump pulley in the other diagram is the water pump. not too complicated

if it was the timing belt the engine would be at the minimum useless and at worst wrecked.
note: I have no clue if the rodeo has an interference engine

Timing belt has nothing to do with this issue, you're just confusing OP

                That's what I'm saying
It can't be the timing belt because the engine dies without one

                Anonymous

nobody said it was the timing belt that broke. we just weren't sure what belt ran the water pump, which turned out to be the serpentine belt

                Anonymous

And I'm saying that's impossible for it to be the timing belt because the engine would die with it broken
How hard is this to understand?
                Do you have brain damage?

                Anonymous

do you understand saying that is of no value? we know it's not the timing belt. at no point was there any ambiguity regarding that. literally, i mean actually literally, nobody asked. from the beginning we all knew that.

                >i mean actually literally, nobody asked. from the beginning we all knew that.
Not only absolutely retarded, also a liar. Read this and say that nobody said it was the timing belt again

it's on the timing belt afaict so it wouldn't run at all without the waterpump

Tensioner pulley bearing fucked off and took the belt with it.

so does it just need a bearing or whole new tensioner

            Anonymous

Whole tensioner, it's sold as a unit.

ok. well o'rilleys has the belt but the tensioner had to be ordered.
funny thing is a few weeks ago i rolled it and i was stuck in WY fixing it for a few weeks, now on the way back to WI the belt broke in SD. looks like an easy fix based on a youtube vid i just watched. remove the fan & radiator, then you can get at all of it.

I always ordered belt and pulley kits. They're relaitvely cheap and you prevent getting fucked by a 25 year old bearing that's worn to shit

they don't call it rodeo for nothin i guess. don't buy from mexicans, even if they are mechanics.

Sounds like you lost your belt. Either from the belt snapping from wear/age, tensioner is weak allowing the belt to walk, misalignment or a pulley decided to fuck off

the bearing broke on the tensioner and the belt went thereafter

Just went back through the thread. Had a similar thing happen to an idler pulley. The bearing took a shit and the pulley exited the engine bay

ok actually the water pump is run by the timing belt, so i can drive it i guess.
found this searching online, same diagram comes up over and over when i search for 6vd1 timing belt routing

Accessory belt fluid is out. You need to refill the belt applier and maybe top off the tensioner lube.

is that in the blinker fluid aisle

        Anonymous

Depends on the store, some put the blinker fluid in lighting isle and the AB fluid and lube in the oil isle. Some put these accessory fluids in the same isle.

    I bet your belt broke
    >belt that drives the power steering and alternator connected usually
    >belt breaks
    >no alternator no power steering
    >burning rubber belt makes smell
    >no alternator kicks on the battery light

Did you change your tensioner too? When my belt slipped, I didn't. I just replaced the belt and the tensioner pulley bearing.

I was so proud, first proper DIY job done. I'm starting to love working on cars in my garage bros.

only the pulley. i would have to wait for them to order the whole tensioner otherwise
