Basic Turning 40 wardrobe

I and I'm sure many of you are creeping up on 40 sooner rather than later, and if you're like me then maybe you're wondering what a good look would be, moving north of 40. I heard somewhere that all men should adopt a new look on their 40th (and women too but they get a second chance at 50) and this look would be our go-to for at least 20 years until we make a new transition to "old man clothing" at 60ish.

Any thoughts on the subject, or ideas? Pic related, as it's what I'm leaning towards.

It's definitely time to stop wearing jeans. Unless if you do manual labor and they are your work pants.

Suits are hideous moron. They look retarded as a clothing, because they are very impractical. And people stopped wearing them and switched to business casual, because suits are now associated with douchebag politicians and sleazy salesmen.
Suits are for fat men, who want to conceal the fact they are fat. That is not effay.

            >suits are now associated with douchebag politicians and sleazy salesmen.

Definitely. Suits are very quickly going to way of the dodo bird, and once they do they'll never come back except maybe in courtrooms, and even then they'll stand out like Barristers in England; only suitable for the courtroom.

Here's another picture of Steve Carell pulling off a nice safe "dad look." Believe me, I worked in a bar for a few years and women would tell me all the time that they can't get enough of the "dad stopping by at the local pub to throw back a few beers before headed home to the senpai." Like there is a SPECIFIC woman that goes after dudes that look like this, and they're not all scandalous whores either; many of them were professional women that spent their 20s in college and half of their 30s working up the corporate ladder. You wouldn't believe how many 30+ year old virgins are out there. The secret is to look for the friend that's really covered up and looks a little uncomfortable while her friends are talking, but be careful because there are some bloodsucking predators out there that have mastered the art of looking innocent, almost virginal, but in reality they pop a guy in the parking lot every Friday night.

Anyway, it's a good look, right? Thoughts?

              >Anyway, it's a good look, right? Thoughts?
I don't like it. For me it looks too supressed. Like trying too much to be normal and not stand out.

              >many of them were professional women that spent their 20s in college and half of their 30s working up the corporate ladder.
I know what you mean, but I think those women are usually scared of relationships. Paranoid even. They flee as soon as they feel any kind of uneasiness. It would take a very experienced player, who knows exactly what he's doing, to get a woman like that.

              Ford completely mogs carrell.
Better silhouette, better boots, better colours.
Carrells persona is built around failure; he fails here as well.
              What a shit fit.

I'm old. I'm near 50. I don't wear shirts unless it's a good club night out or someone dies. I certainly don't dress like anything in your image.
99% of the time I wear designer gear, fleece joggers, tshirt and some trainers, or jeans sweatshirt.

    >hawaii shirts and workwear

That’s not a good look for a 40yo dude. At all.
Dress in full Brunello Cucinelli and Loro Piana. Or if you don’t want to spend the cash just copy their lookbook.
A mix of dadcore, classic British stuff, golf-esque half preppy attire and sprezz (but not full sprezz) in summer should do the trick.
The outfits you posted make you look like some wannabe ironic sleazer or some oldhead skater. Just don’t.

The problem with all of these styles is that they look amazing in magazines but irl they're just not day-to-day wear. Or they can be, but you'll likely stand out. I've found that it's better to blend into a crowd and be a grayman.

pic related is a shining example of this. Outside in the real world Steve Carell would fit right in and no one would give his attire a second though, but Gosling is standing out too much. This can be a good thing when it counts but it can be very bad when you just want to run with the pack.

Carell's shirt is a wee bit too big, so shorten that up a little so it fits proper and throw on an Eisenhower jacket and you've got perfect dadcore.

        >I've found that it's better to blend into a crowd and be a grayman.
I don't think it's better to blend in with the crowd.
There really is a tipping point between standing out too much and being a npc.
It's also important to dress for your location. It's stupid to dress like you're in Manhattan while living in Des Moines, Iowa.

I'm 36. At this point I just wear solid color tshirts from asket, and jeans from N&F.
I've been thinking of looking for some graphic tees from like Psycho Bunny or something. But I'm not really that motivated to rn.

Jeans should be the most casual pant an adult male wears in public. Joggers, sweats, and athleisure should be reserved for home and exercise. Exception is sleazecore tracksuit.

AMEN. And let's be honest, appropriately styled jeans/casual cords satisfy 90% of situations you'll be in outside of work. I know a guy who tries to do the baggy linen slacks look and it makes me cringe every time I see him.
