Back posture

How can I improve my posture? I read about the mental benefits of good posture in 12 rules for life (plus I look just like the guy in the pic when I sit).

My lower back is really weak and it is hard to sit up straight for long periods of time.

Are there any good back exercises or back braces?

Exercise. It's the only thing that actually helped me. Just make sure you're feeling it in the correct muscle groups and stop as soon as you don't. In the start, you won't be able to do many sets, don't worry about it.

What are some good back exercises though? I already do pushups, planks, and dumbbell exercises, which helped with arm and chest definition, but have no idea how to best target the back.

if you are doing push ups regularly then your back is not weak.

Not necessarily, I have the same issue, I used to use only my abdominal muscles. needless to say, they were quite strong.

I have no idea what you call them..
Lie on your back, and push your lower back into the floor. Lift your knees up to a 90° angle.
Slowely move your leg forward, but stop going forward once your lower back lifts. You have to make sure your lower back touches the floor throughout every movement.
And then switch leg and do the same again. That's my go-to for lower back.
There's this asian guy on youtube that focusses on back and posture problems, he has good stuff.

Do push ups every other day. I do 50 push up in a row every other day. on a good day I'll do 60 in a row.

You must commit to doing this every other day for the rest of your life.
This will cure all your back problems. and you also won't have to worry about posture anymore either.

If you really want good posture you have to run, running straightens out your back

thanks for the advice 🙂 I never run because I figured it wouldnt build muscle, but didn't realize it could help my back

Bro if you got back problems then building muscles will only further increase your pain and destroy your body, I’m sorry but it’s basically over for you

running doesn't help your back. Don't listen to that joker. Running is terrible for you.
If you're doing all these exercises then your back should be strong. Maybe you injured it.
Do you get enough calcium and vitamin D? Protein?

I take vitamin D supplements every day, and no idea what my blood level is but I would assume my doctor would tell me if I needed more calcium. I have turkey for lunch and chicken for dinner most days so probably enough protein. Maybe the next step is seeing a physical therapist if these back exercises don't work

what exactly are you feeling? pain or weakness?

                Anonymous

no pain at all, just fatigue if I try to sit without being slouched over for over a few minutes. Bad habit is also probably part of it too

                Think of it this way.
A weak back is like a Jenga tower. If you sit with a bad posture, it might fall apart.
A strong back doesn't worry about posture because it is surrounded by strong back muscles that keep it in place regardless of position.

If you got fatigue, that is a different problem. Everyone gets tired after sitting down for a while. Sitting down for long periods is not that healthy. The 'crash' people get a couple hours after drinking coffee can make people extremely tired while just sitting around.

You must be doing something that is not very engaging, so your body is essentially shutting down, which causes tiredness.

Human bodies aren't meant to sit in chairs. It's not entirely your fault you're bad at sitting.

                well
You don't have to sit up straight!
                Your back is strong
You can sit however you like.

besides looking ridiculous when I sit, it's supposedly also good for anxiety to have good posture (at least according to that 12 rules for life book)
