yup, a big reason being that it too sooooo long for a picture to develop and it was a lot easier on the person to just have a neutral/serious expression instead of keeping a small going.

It was actually customary look serous for photos in olden times so the frown suits it.

In the movie Cold Mountain Nicole Kidman gives Jude Law a photo of herself before he leaves for war and she apologizes for looking too serious in the pic because she doesn’t know how to pose maintaining a smile. I think smiling pictures were preferred at least for women but few people could pull it off when you had to stay completely still for 5+ minutes

is he holding in his gut or just constipated? maybe the girl he likes is taking the pic and hes trying not to let one rip in front of her.

    >A-at least we ain’t reddit, amirite guise?!
    >Chooses a cute picture of a guy dressing up in a Christmas costume for a work event with people who are probably also in the holiday spirit
You’re a joyless gay. He looks like he’s having an enjoyable time and you’re alone complaining about it. Lol.

let me guess, 99% of comments are backhanded compliments like
    >what a sir!
    >I would definitely invite you to our swaggardly gent meeting!
If I saw this guy irl I’d full force kick him in the nuts

As a /his/ gay if I saw this guy IRL I would want to make conversation about Victorian era history then base my opinion on how he responds. If it’s clear he doesn’t know much about history or if he has some gay opinions then I would make fun of his fit, otherwise I would compliment him on being a learned man and move on. But when it comes to Victorian fashion, military uniforms are where it’s at.

It’s literally just because he’s fat. Being <12% body fat is more important than literally anything else for your aesthetic. You can just wear t shirts and basketball shorts and look better than a fatass in a $1,000+ designer wardrobe. Just be skinny.

The problem these days is that no one gets enough sunlight anymore. So back in ye ol’ days when the majority of people were outside a good chunk of the day their skin reflected this, especially in men. Yes they aged faster but they never had that babyfat soft skin look that so many people these days have. If this guy lost 10kg+ and spent the next year outside most of his waking life he’d look even better.

the main problem, besides him being fat, is that it’s all low quality garbage from Wish, the quality of the garments is on par with a halloween costume. If he went to a good mens dresser they could supply him with a three piece with historic features that wouldn’t look life a larp outfit.

It is bad because he went for authentic vintage but it is just cheap shit. Pre-tied bowtie and the vest looks to be cheap asian quality.

Just compare the bowties on these men. There it looks like actual flowing fabrics tied up, asymmetrical. His is modern garbage and totally anachronistic.

also look at the shirts and jackets, they are properly sized so, even though grant was at least as fat as op’s pic, his rolls dont threaten to burst the seams

The rich and powerful of the past pull off their own clothing better than some random dude on reddit? NO WAY!
