Where does it say that? I just checked. It doesn’t say that it isn’t real anywhere.

            Anyway, that’s just one atrocity.

Here’s King Darius of Achaemenid Persia, from the Behistun Inscription:

            Column 1, Line 32:

            > King Darius says: Thereupon that Phraortes fled thence with a few horseman to a district in Media called Rhagae. Then I sent an army in pursuit. Phraortes was taken and brought unto me. I cut off his nose, his ears, and his tongue, and I put out one eye, and he was kept in fetters at my palace entrance, and all the people beheld him. Then did I crucify him in Ecbatana; and the men who were his foremost followers, those at Ecbatana within the fortress, I flayed and hung out their hides, stuffed with straw.

The difference is what you gave is one unreliable instance from a Grecoroman propagandist. The Assyrian bragged and recorded in stone how totally horrific they were. To innocent civilians who had just happened to be on the wrong side. That's the difference between the Persians and Assyrians. Yeah, they Persian would fuck you up if you were a traitor, or a Roman they really didn't like. But being cruel wasn't their whole personality. The whole idea with the Assyrians was that they were so deliberately horrible that people would surrender immediately rather than risk fighting them. That's why they were eventually destroyed, everyone hated them so much they wiped their capital off the map.

Bragging and recording in stone is exactly what King Darius did here

That was just line 32. Here’s line 33:

            > by the grace of Ahuramazda my army utterly defeated that rebel host, and they seized Tritantaechmes and brought him unto me. Afterwards I cut off both his nose and ears, and put out one eye, he was kept bound at my palace entrance, all the people saw him. Afterwards I crucified him in Arbela.

This is identical to the type of atrocious brutalities Assyrians had committed. And it’s simply because that’s how all society operated back then.

The thread has already descended into stupidity and any post below is spam. But there is the real answer.
Assyria was closer to Europe and had access to iron.
Because it was the Bronze Age, and everything depended on bronze, the countries closer to where it was mined were more successful. The country with more iron wins every war. Every battle is won by the side with more cavalry, artillery or pikes.
This is all obvious, the Assyrians won wars because they were closer to the resources. His is of course a retard board and will ignore.

Even more than that the Assyrians built the first standing army in history. When you are surrounded by other smaller regional powers that have drafted armies, that alone compells yu into war with them in order to both keep the army and take the others resources. It happened to Rome as well.

Assyrians have nothing to do with Syrians, quite literally nothing aside from the name. Eastern Syria alongside the Euphrates is part of their natural homeland, like other Mesopotamians.
Syrians are Levantines and descendants of Arameans and Phoenicians, who weren't on best terms with Assyrians themselves.

What is interesting is how Northern Iraq is still the most explosive and violent region of the country, ISIS sprung from this area. While the South is more stable, interested in culture and scholarly activity. Much like the division between Assryia and Babylon to me.
