Are you going hunting this year pol?

Archery season has been upon us for a month now in most states. Gun season for deer is just around the corner. Are you going rifle hunting this year /misc/?
Saving money by hunting is a viable strategy to save money.
This is political because finances are important.
Dust your rifle off. Oil it up and make sure its sighted correctly.

What's the point of hunting if you're gonna go buy meat from the supermarket anyways. Hunting is immoral as you're not really doing it for the meat you get out of it you're doing it because you think it's fun killing animals you psychopath

How does it save you money? Everywhere you go charges you to hunt and the processing plant takes away any savings you have after that. Unless you process it yourself, it probably isn't going to save you much of anything. Of course if you have your own land and the ability to process it yourself you will do very well. But I would just assume raise some sheep on a couple of acres as own 100 acres of wildland for hunting.

          Anonymous

We got ourselves a city slicker here boys. Nobody charges us to hunt, we find our friends and neighbors who have farmland to hunt on, and we process the meat ourselves. All we pay for are tags and bullets, which are cheap enough when you can get 60+ pounds of meat out of it.

          >charges you to hunt
I own 60 acres wooded land
          Public land is free
          >processing plant
3 hours to butcher my own animal. Thats alone.
If my brother and dad are involved we can get a deer done in 45 min.
Bullets, the ammunition i use are roughly 1.50-1.60 per round.
The orange vest and har cost me $25
A yearly license is $25 here with 2 tags. Extra tags are $10 a piece.
So realistically because id likely be in the woods chopping up old trees. Im spending that time collecting wild game instead.
Ive owned all my gear since i was 18 so its not like it hasnt paid itself off. And ive stocked ammo for a lifetime. 1-2 rounds for deer. A deer is maybe 100lbs meat.
          3 deer per gun season.
Meat for a year easy. Under 50 dollars.
A good roast costs almost that much and thats 2 days of food for 2 people.
          Its definately cost effective.

Realistically you just purchase tags for your sarrounding area, and then drive out there. Tags arent usually more than 30$
Its the destination hunts you see on tv like a guy from boston goes to colorado or AK to hunt eldk or bear. Thats when it gets expensive. For most its not really. People just get gaslit easily by reality tv.

you think factory farms are humane retard? take your head out of the sand. most people, at least White people, who hunt do it humanely. One lethal shot and the animal is dead within 0-10 seconds. factory farming is a short lifetime of misery and suffering you dirty filthy rat.

buying meat from a mechanized farm is farm more immoral than hunting. stomping right on a cats head and crushing it to dead is less immoral than factory farm meat and anyone that says otherwise has never see these places first hand. dumb people need video evidence of things, describing it means nothing because NPCs cant imagine things vividly. (imagine an apple, etc)
look at videos of it if you must. I actually started buying "organic" or paying attention to where my meat comes from after seeing pig slaughter houses in Georgia. it was horrifying. they are basically tortured their entire lives, and fed actual garbage. not food waste. garbage. and then they are walked through a chute into a little area where they are killed over a river of blood and shot in the head with a captive bolt. I thought I was pretty hard before that, but even I left feeling pretty shocked. Stupid people get mad about muh animal cruelty against mutts, oohhh nooo not the wooferino tied to a treeee! then ignore animals much smarter than mutts being tortured their whole lives and fed raw garbage. there would be lawsuits out the ass if a stupid dog were treated half this bad. but the pig torture isnt right in front of you in a tik tok video, so nobody give a fuck. i hate this gay earth.

Depending where you live it may be more difficult to find land. But really, for gun in most of the midwest and wooded areas of the east, you look up public access land. 99% of it you can hunt but you may have to deal with other hunyers as well.
Alternatively you can buy a plat book and figure out who owns what. Like a farmer with a fallow lot or wooded area. Call them up and ask to hunt. They may ask to lease or just say yes. Many will say no because other hunters have already done the same.
Once youve figured out what to do in this regard, if youre going white tail hunting youll need a rifle and a gun license which often comes with an antlerless tag(doe, or buck with no percieveable antlers) and a buck tag.

Then you get yourself some blaze orange, like a vest that fits over your warm jacket and an orange hat. And find a spot in the woods you think youre likely to see them.
This might be places like game trails, places with lots of droppings or antler rubs.
Be careful about scent. If you need help learning how to clean the animal after youve shot it theres a million youtube videos. Meat eater has many. And if you need help butchering after youve gotten it home theres lots of vids on that too.
I hope i was helpful anon

Should note everything ive talked about here applies to bow except you typically wont use orange clothing. And make sure you get a good broadhead. Blood tracking and shot placement are very important with bow.
Try to control your excitement when you see something. Its not easy for many.
Ive put lots of deer in my freezer and every single one of them has made me shakey from the adrenaline dump.
Make sure to thank whatever god you have for the success if you have it.

As the other anon so elequently put, animals are retarded, and we've evolved to hunt them for eons. Go to your local outdoor store that isn't rei, and get yourself a copy of the game regs. Look up how to get a hunting license in your state, you can get one in many states online. Then you need to get your game tags. Oftentime part of getting your license ia going through a class on hunting, again it may be online.

You have to take a hunting class to get license anyway so you can meet people then and ask questions but truthfully nobody knows how, they just try to be safe and have fun in da woods looking for animals a lot more than shooting them, it's a hunt all year looking around and planning for that weekend you might go and try to actually shoot one of the animals you saw another time

        The Jew

I do have a tikka t3x lite in 7mm but that's actually my budget 308 Browning package. came with a Leopold scope. nice bang for the buck at 1099CAD all in. 308 ammo is affordable for target too. I hardly use my tikka in the bush anymore. I prefer the 308 to the 7mm. I take the tikka for moose trips up north as it works better in -15C to -30C should it get that cold

Back of the bolt looked like a Tikka, forgot about the Browning X. Funny how many of the budget rifles will outshoot the high dollar shit. Mass production has come a long way.

            The Jew

The 308 is superior to the 7mm imo. however there's no doubt the tikka has a smoother feed, Superior design with both ergonomics structure and feel to it. but that's actually an ab3 not the Browning x. it's a perfect Bush gun and I'm not going to cry if it gets snowed or rained on.

                The Jew

price per performance ratio isn't worth the money for the miniscule performance increase on the 7 mm. I can buy Federal dear 175 grain ammo for $40 CAD and it'll perform almost as nice as the hornady 7 mm premium. 180 for 80+ CAD. Target rounds are even cheaper on a 308 or reload. so 308 is the gun that I use the most when I go moose hunting I'll take the tikka 7 mm out.

                Anonymous

The increase in BC is significant. Money is not an issue for me and shouldn't even be a consideration for a hunting rifle. Also, there is a ton of "7mm" out there. 7mm-08, which is what I use for stag, 7x64 which is what I use for chamois and ibex etc. I'm assuming you are talking about 7mm rem mag, which, ironically, is the worst of the bunch due to the shitty belt and the long action.

                The Jew

                >7mm-08
most enthusiasts compare the 308 to the -08. that's what I read referring to ya. I'm not broke or anything close to it I just think that it's a waste of money for bringing your gun into the bush and shooting some deer. the 308 is more than adequate and you can buy it in bulk for half the price and the performance isn't even that big of a deal to me so. 308 is where it's at unless you're a 7mm-08 snob.

The 7mm-08 IS a .308, except actually good. .308 is an inefficient caliber, because it constantly needs to sacrifice MV for BC instead of just having both. Wind drift is a substantial issue for me considering I live in the mountains as well, so a fast 7 is King. Most of my shots are also pretty long distance. For all these reasons, 7mm-08 and 7x64 are infinitely better than .308. Picrel is my ballistic turret, my rifle is zero'd at 180m and each increment is an increase of 150 meters (2 = 330m, 3 = 480m, 4 = 630m). Furthest I've shot was a chamois at 612 meters with the Hornady 7mm-08 139gr

Was wondering which 7 you were talking about, would’ve guessed 7 Mauser since euro, but I don’t really know shit about what’s popular there.

7mm-08 is just a modernised 7x57 Mauser anyway. 7x64 is generally more common here, but lots of old K98 7mm Mausers around as well. 6.5x57 and my personal schizo favourite 6.5x68 also enjoy a great following.

I think he was referring to his rifles by their chamber rather than the actual cartridges. Both are perfectly acceptable rounds for hunting of course, and there are several 7mm out there, so not sure which one would even be being compared. I use a .284 (7mm short action) for most of my hunting.

                >Both are perfectly acceptable rounds for hunting of course,
Not a fan of .308 - the ballistics are very lackluster compared to a 7 or a 6/6.5
And it's still not big enough to be considered a "large" meplat, either, so you don't even get the benefit of momentum from higher grain weights. 180gr is already nearing the absolute max for .308 when it comes to stabilising the projectile with the relatively slow 1:10/1:11 twist rates and let alone achieving halfway decent muzzle velocity at that point.

They won't. You are just coping about not being able to afford the "high dollar shit". Most factory rifles manage to hold 1 MOA just fine these days, what you are paying a premium for is the bedding, materials, ergonomics, and modularity.

Im not trying to refute you. But he does have a point. A bedded ruger american shoots sub moa all day. Theyre just not as smooth of an action. Most hunting rifles now days will shot just as well in the field as their counter parts. Its mostly build quality that varies. Now on paper in ideal conditions id consider a bergara or cz over a savage axis or wetherbee. But ultimately that 400 meter shot in misty conditions is going to be a kill shot regardless of wich of those 4 rifles the hunter chooses. Provided he does his part.

Avid bow hunters are a different fucking breed though. New, $800 dollar bow every season. Latest camoflage patterns. Gizmos to call deer. The works. Its neat, just kindof funny when you notice the trend.

My best shooting rifle I built on Remington 700 receiver, it’s a 22” barrel (proof, bull, stainless) and free floating stock. This is 4 rounds in 1” at 300’ with one flyer that was my fault, shot prone with sandbags. It cost me about a grand to put together.

That's cute, but I don't shoot paper & particle board

Why they need a new bow every year?
And the people who hunt with a bow probably view it as a hardcore hunting challenge

They dont need a new one. They just really like to buy them. Ive been using my same bow for 6 years and have luck 50% of the time. Its just the ones who are really into bow hunting that do that.
Many bow hunt for the challenge yes. Many also bow hunt for the seasonal extension. Because it starts much earlier than gun hunting. So you have more time for success even if its more difficult.

Didn't know know that, 900$ every year is a hefty price plus arrows and such I guess

That sucks israelite bro. Youd think they would have a lottery system to atleast keep the population down. Seagulls here are protected and they are litteral rats of the sky.
Idk why some people pay for a new bow every year though. The one they had 3 years ago is just as effectove as the one they bought this year.
Its just shiny and new and has a cooler paint scheme i guess. What really gets me is the camoflage.
30 yearold mossy oak pants are just as effective now as they were then because deer cant make shapes or colors well.
I use old M81 woodland camies and a camo hat personally. Ive never been seen, im just hunting with old tech so i have to be more careful of my shots.

                Seagulls are protected?
I guess it's not a good idea to allow people hunt them in places where people live, which is also where they gather because of human food

And there is something I love about high quality and reliable stuff that just work even after years and years even under a bit higher price tag, almost feels like a good old friend
And maybe they just like to collect them or like a new IPhone every year, although I less understand it about modern bows, in my opinion they look less aesthetic than old traditional ones and more like a workhorse
And old army camouflage look neat too

the bill c-21 can't pass because they don't have the majority government. the conservatives will never vote for it. so it's been in limbo for two years. bolties gave never been the issue. they're going after firearms that have been used in mass shootings and pistols. even though only 3% of gun crime in Canada is committed by legal weapons and the rest is smuggled over the vast unprotected boarder from the states.

all my buddies and I spent almost ten grand in pistols at our gun club as soon as it was mentioned. should the conservatives get in the bill goes out the window and they'll ironically have helped the sport shooting and hunting industry in Canada. the buyback program would cost billions, can't remember the exact figure, and will do nothing to help gun crime

The only type of "hunting" I considered doing was trapping, but even snares can be messy and painful if they're not set up right. Awful stories about people leaving snares out and somebody's dog getting caught in one are shitty.

Hear all kinds of shit and see stuff moving that i can't explain. It's no wonder folk lore exists.

Im near silver pine. Yea toe warmers are the bees knees. Need more heat? Stick two more somewhere with high blood flow.
Nuts getting cold? Stick one to the inside of ypur pants.
Nips freezing? Stick one dead center of your chest.
Keeping them near your kidneys keeps you from having to piss like a motherfucker too. Because your internals are atleast heated to some degree.

Yeah, enjoy paying as much as you would spend on a luxury cruise just to squat for a few days in gear that costs almost as much as fuckin' gucci. You also have to have a big fucking truck to transport the game you kill (if you kill), also you have to have atleast a decent crossbow or rifle (hundreds if not thousands of dollars, no it will not pay for itself) and all of this is counting if your state doesn't have a tag lotto (10 year wait lol)

i was just about to say something similar, some people around here spend thousands of dollars on gear but considering chicken and pork are like $2/lb minimum one good sized deer will pay for a shitty rifle or a decent shotgun in terms of meat, and you don't really NEED any gear besides a gun - nobody hunted wearing fancy woodland camo back in the day. american indians hunted wearing leather and plain colored cloth, using 25lb draw weight bows, and they ate pretty good.

The goose hunters get me the most so far as that, thousands into blinds, decoys, gear, dogs, and you could just buy some goslings at the country store and drop maybe 100 bucks in feed a year and have more goose than you ever wanted.

and another thing in regards to the cost of hunting, you should learn how to butcher your own meat. the only thing you can't do at home with a knife and a hacksaw is make finely ground meat. but even then, you can mince it with a knife if you know what you're doing. one expense many people make for hunting is taking their kill to a processor. i've never done it, but i've heard it costs like $100 to have it broken down and packaged, which does still make it cheap compared to buying meat from a grocery store, but why not just take your time and learn to do it all yourself? if you really want ground venison, buy a meat grinder. i'm considering doing that myself because i want to learn to make sausages. otherwise though, it's dead easy to cut out steaks and roasts. just have to take your time and pay attention to the structure of the muscles.

last year the geese were so bad here you had to actively try not to run them over. i never bothered hunting waterfowl because of all the steel shot bullshit and it seems like a hassle.

Buy a huge chest freezer, go to a ranch/farm where they breed cattle for meat sales. Buy a cow and take to local butcher. Have 2-3 years of meat for $700. Plus $200 to slaughter and chop into cuts. What's that 15 hours of your work week spent.

I waited 15 years to get a pup from this bloodline. Triple line bred to sooty sam on the sire's side. A lot of lads that hunt in my country use crosses, but for me the pure whippet from the right line is the dog, even though it's a bit more fragile in the elements. The main thing that matters on the ground where I live with so much cover ( and also I prefer to hunt during the daytime, not with a lamp) is short bursts of acceleration. But he general hunting ability from this line, although it is somewhat controversial on some quarry, is off the charts, including the nose(tracking), pointing, retrieve and brains. One year of hell to train though, you american lads wouldn't understand with your gun dogs, brilliant as they are at their jobs, what goes into to training a running dog from old lines.

Many years ago around here (high plains, east of Rockies, bunch of treeless ranch land) my dad had a friend that used greyhound cross runners and some kind of wolfhound cross kill dogs to hunt coyotes, but I was a little shit then and only knew not to treat them as pets to play with when we were over there. Most working dogs here are cattle dogs, then as you correctly pointed out retrieving/flushing bird dogs. I’ve never seen a proper dog hunt for hares or fox, but have seen some of your countrymen use terriers for vermin control.

                Anonymous

Whatever dogs your dads friend had were very good, to kill a fox usually involves some blood and wounds on the dog, the skill to kill a coyote would be another level entirely and would require a very special dog. I heard of a breed called the stag hound that were out of deerhounds over there. The modern wolfhound is only a recreation and a show pony. Them dogs were most likely out of scottish deerhound blood, which is closely related to the greyhound, but with more power.

What sort of cattle dogs you guys use? I'd bet there are some amazing dogs, but a pain in the ass if you don't have work for them. If I lived over there and wanted to hunt like I do here, I would find myself the right whippet or grey and cross her to one of those cattle dogs. Bet it would do anything that as asked of it.

The israelite selling kosher meat don’t actually do any of that shit, I’ve seen kosher meat leave slaughter house/packing plant with only beaners ever doing any of the work and no israelite to be found anywhere. It’s just a shakedown, some kike charges money to say it gets done then the consumer pays more for the label.

I got everything to start hunting, even bought a rifle for small game (.22LR). I just never did it before and don't think I should venture myself alone, without any guide or without someone who already has experience. It's kinda hard to do it by oneself. This year I will just try making enough friends who are into hunting and see if the next year they're willing to invite me over and teach me the way.

Hunting is easier than retards make it seem. First you locate a food source the animal you want to kill likes. For deer this is corn and apples for example, apple orchards are especially good because apples get deer drunk and drunk things are easier to ambush and kill. Then you locate a fresh water source. Like a spring fed pond or creek. NOT a lake or river, as that water isn't safe to drink and animals know that.

Then you just position yourself somewhere between the two and even if you're a crosseyed retard with a 22lr you'll kill something every time.

I've been watching lots of video to try to get some knowledge before going myself. Someone told me it's illegal to hunt deer with a 22LR in Oh! Canada, so I've been also watching on how to skin and cut hares for fur and meat. Might just try to kill some of that this year to see how it works. Thanks for the tips.
