Why is BMW (I'm talking about 5y+ shitbuckets) so romanticized being the "bad boy"/"made it" car? Mostly by chavs/bydlo/turks/other shitskins and the other dregs of society?
I'm from Eastern Europe and 95% of old (10y+) BMWs are driven by <30 year old losers/lower-class plebs (mechanics, blue collar workers, high-school dropouts, etc.).
The middle class usually lease a used 5y+ model. I rarely see a modern BMW under warranty and the drivers are some of the most polite ones on the road.

Amazing observation. Old BMWs are cars for car guys. They were built with sporty dynamics in mind, they're easy to work on and there's guides and answers for pretty much everything about them on the internet so they're great for newbies to learn on as well. On top of that they have interiors that have aged gracefully and are very comfy to sit in while most competing sporty cars from this era have cheap, rattly or just plain ugly interiors. The exterior styling is very mature and doesn't scream boyracer with mommy issues, but of course a lot of those guys want a BMW too so they rice them to oblivion. Unfortunate but it's a free country. Anyone who thinks they aren't great cars are just wrong. I fully understand not liking the average beamer homosexual but separate those homosexuals from the car itself and it's a great product. BMW was the king of the automotive industry from the 80s to the 00s, it's no wonder their cars are still so desirable.

I remember when it was at the point where the magazines had to apologize for ranking the BMW first in so many comparisons, they were just that much better.

Not really, not since the late 80’s-90’s.
Overhyped, overpriced (bearing in mind the new phenomenon of charging folks for ‘heated steering wheel’ etc etc via Smartphone/BMW ‘account’)…
    Money for old rope.
Saying that, homosexuals will still lap it up.

They used to be good. Now they make pigfat lifestyle cars and SUVs for middle-aged soccer moms and Blacks who want to flaunt their money but dont even know what made BMW good in the first place.

Yes they're excellent. For recent models it's generally M or broke - that's a bit of an overstatement, but the x20d or something like it really isn't much of a driver's car. The recent low-end models without 'performance packs' or other optionals are very underwhelming too, and again you generally only see people paying for those on the top-end specs.

Anyway, pre-turbo BMW lives up to the ultimate driver's machine mantra. Pre-bangle especially, but it's true until they go turbo. Even oddballs like the V10 M5/6 are real BMWs, they just don't have the same undefeatable reliability of older models.
