There's lots of people who don't. In the US, at least, they rob themselves to create "disposable income" by putting all their purchases on credit cards and make the minimum payment". Eventually it'll catch up to them and they'll have maxed cards and continue to make interest only payments until they declare bankruptcy or die

I am a student and am also saving as aggressively as I can. I have $200 to spend outside of rent, insurance, transportation, and grocery. I usually spend it all on taking out my girl to 2 or 3 coffee shops a month, then a really nice dinner. That is not an exaggeration- I budget very closely. Assuming I can get a job that pays in the bottom 40% of my degree, and work another part time job for 10 years, I should be able to retire comfortably clearing $250k a year in returns in 15 years, using the 30 year average of the market.
TL;DR - Hope, and a lot of determination to raise a lot of white children right.
