    The Picatrix

Be warned, many of the spells, sigils and potions are formualted in the way to only allow a true practioner to pass through.

Literally, potions of healing, will cause death. Not all of them but some will.

If you don't know your herbology, alchemy and the reactions between substances of the spiritual relevances this isn't a book for you.

It was made this way to kill anyone who isn't a true practioner as they should already have enough knowledge to know that when certain things are combine it'll actually kill you, keep you open to possession and just terrible fucking things

yes. its short and very fragmentary but easy for a beginner if you just wanna draw sigils and do simple rituals. Germanic magic tended to be fairly pragmatic and short; theres about 50 charms and signs for finding out a farm-thief. careful with what ones you draw. I always have gotten the impression that many of them do not actually do what it says they do.
also the 3 books of occult philosophy by heinrich cornelius agrippa are good for beginners, but its a very long book, be prepared for study. treat it like a textbook.

Also or 10$ to support his podcast (which is free) you get access to a ton of interesting courses on his website that'll take you step by step through Chaos magic, witch craft, astrology and recommend many many books.

I know the Picatrix is originally Arabic but what about European spell books from about pre Christian magic besides the Icelandic material already mentioned earlier in this thread?

there isnt really much, even the icelandic book is from the 1500s and has an odd mix of nordic, christian and even some egyptian influences. theres one spell i recall where it invokes just about every damn spiritual entity known to the west at the time, from odin to jesus to God to allah to satan to baalzebub to osiris to anubis. literally just a list of about 100 god-names and demon-names
only authentic pre-christian grimoire I can think of rn is the greek magical papyri, which is not really greek although it has a few greek influences. it was written in greek by egyptian occultists. its essentially an egyptian girmoire from the late dynasies

Picatrix is an Arab record of Hellenic, Egyptian, and Roman magic.

this thread is shows how stupid a lot of occultists are. An adolescent minded danger to yourself and others.
