This. Ortho/Cath larpers were atheists 15 years ago but then realized they weren't edgy any more. So they moved on to a new larp to forever rebel against their parents.

Ortho priests can marry, but any higher up on the chain and you've got to stay celibate. My great grandfather one nearly drowned the local priest for stealing his firewood. His son is good friends with my grandfather.

People really should be looking at the Orthodox and Tradcath trends as revealing of the fact that more liberal forms of Christianity just aren't speaking to younger people.

Millennials and Gen Z with liberal progressive values by-and-large simply aren't interested in Christianity in the first place, and no amount of gay/trans pastors or rainbow flags is going to convince them otherwise, they'd rather see churches die out entirely.

But the young westerners who ARE drawn to Christianity are those who are seeking some kind of escape from liberal, modernist culture. They're tired of seeing the same progressive monoculture everywhere they go and want to try something different. But they look at their local churches (whether protestant or catholic) and see people who are seemingly ashamed of Christian teaching, and are capitulating to secular values again and again. So it's no surprise then that they look for "LARPs" online, because at the very least, these terminally online Orthodox converts and traditionalist Catholics are making some attempt to challenge the secular world, rather than repeating the same shit about "Christianity needs to adapt and change with the times..."

The answer to this, to help these younger people, is for mainline Protestant churches and the Catholic Church in particular to recognise that the liberalising project of Christianity has failed. It isn't winning over converts, it isn't satiating the needs of younger people who seek religion, and it's not appeasing the hardcore secularists who want to see Christianity of all kinds become a thing of the past in their "ideal future".

It's not that at all. Christianity is about love, and community. We eat together, pray together, sing together. If you are an incel, schizoid, and/or closet homosexual you will not be comfortable around other believers and not enjoy actually going to church. This is why they larp.

Nick Fuentes who is their leader says he never actually goes to church despite being a tradcath. The story is the same, these radical traditionalists don't even attend the church because they have social anxiety and are full of seethe/hate.

It's nice that someone recognises this without feeling the need to include political shit flinging.

Anyone embracing Christianity out of hate for others is entirely misguided and looking to use a false pretence of faith as a fashion statement.

The reason theism appears to be in decline is that there were many that were simply not religious but declaring themselves to be out of a need to conform, or worse, basic tribalism.

Nick Fuentes isn't Christian, he's an example of someone who's doing the LARP for aesthetics and nothing more.

But there absolute is a growing number of young people who are looking for some form of traditional religion and, upon turning to their local churches, find that these churches do not welcome them and do not really even promote anything any different to the liberal secularist values they were seeking to escape from in the first place.

It's nice that someone recognises this without feeling the need to include political shit flinging.

Anyone embracing Christianity out of hate for others is entirely misguided and looking to use a false pretence of faith as a fashion statement.

        >Anyone embracing Christianity out of hate for others is entirely misguided and looking to use a false pretence of faith as a fashion statement.
        What is "hate" for others?

If you're hinting at the subset of /misc/ types who are turning to Christianity trying to mould it into being some kind of white nationalist religion, I agree. There is no place for racism in any serious form of Christianity (that goes both ways though. black nationalism and identitarianism should also be rejected thoroughly)

But if by "hate" you mean people who want traditional teaching on sexuality, on homosexuality, marriage, transgenderism, etc, then no, this is a ridiculous idea. Young people are not wrong or "bigoted" for expecting that Christian churches should teach Christian values when it comes to these matters.

The biggest mistake Christians made was making bring against gays and abortion their entire identity. No one even know what the positive aspects of Christianity are anymore because Christians have put culture warring ahead of actually following their religion. Pope Francis recently said something to this effect, that some Christian care more about abortion than Christ. So it's no surprise young people are leaving Christianity, since there's no obvious positive to being a Christian anymore in the US.

        Anonymous

What is the point of being Christian if you aren't going to follow Christian teaching? Christian teaching is that homosexuality is a sin and abortion is murder. Why should that change simply because liberal secular society disagrees with these values?

If you want pro-LGBT and pro-abortion rhetoric, you can go literally anywhere else in secular society. But Christian churches should be places where Christian values are promoted, not secular values.

            >muh whataboutism
It does not change the fact that Christianity should not teach pro-homosexuality, pro-transgender or pro-abortion values. These things directly contradict millennia of Christian teaching.

The only argument anybody has for this to change is some vague allusion to the fact that "religion has to change with the times and adapt to modern values to stay relevant". But how far do you take that? Some people say that Abrahamic religion is doomed in modern times because educated first worlders can never be taught to believe in God, or in the resurrection of Christ. So should Christians also abandon belief in the Bible as describing true events and the direct intervention of God in our world, because modern secular society doesn't believe in this either? Should Christians take the agnostic view that the Bible is just a collection of non-literal morality tales that anybody can interpret in any way they want, even without actually believing in God?

Strictly speaking, everybody falls short of God's standards. That doesn't mean we should all just stop following all teachings because some are easier to follow and enforce than others. Plenty of Christians excel in a variety of different teachings, it's not that everyone acts as one with the exact same misgivings.
            > you guys literally do not follow Jesus’s teachings except for the hateful discriminatory ones
I doubt you could even name any of them. Your previous reference to turning the other cheek doesn't count because that's a message regarding an ancient practice of the time. If anything, the message encourages non-violent solutions to problems, but in this specific example (and also the next one Christ gives), the attacker is humiliated.

            >doubt you could even name any of them. Your previous reference to turning the other cheek doesn't count because that's a message regarding an ancient practice of the time.
I’m an ex-Christian I’m well aware of what it means to be one. Jesus prefaces that lesson by contrasting it with eye for an eye. It is crystal clear that he means you do not fight back when personally attacked or insulted.

Again, you do not follow Jesus’s teachings and if anything you desecrate them by deliberately misrepresenting them and pretending you’re adhering to them.

            Anonymous

Not only does Jesus contrast turn the other cheek with eye for an eye, he explicitly says you’re turning your cheek so he can also slap the other one. He then gives a second example where if someone steals your clothes, offer him more clothes to take.

It really needs to be talked about more that not only do you people follow an ancient primitive religion, you don’t even understand it. I mean how much simpler and easy to interpret could this possibly be?

38You have heard that it was said, "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth." 39But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. 41And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you.

How can you possibly frick up the meaning of that? You have a full blown learning disability guy

You misread. Jesus does not say to let someone slap you twice. As I said, it refers to a cultural practice of the time. You would only be struck with someone's right hand (as the left hand is for toilet business, as Arabs still do today). To be slapped on the right cheek would mean getting a right backhand slap. Now as the practice goes, you slap those of inferior rank to you, but punch those of equal footing. By turning the other cheek you remove his ability to give you another backhand, and by offering up another hit you put your disrespector in the awkward position of having to elevate your rank by punching you. Note that Jesus adds a "but" between the call not to resist evil and the instruction to turn the other cheek. The message is clear to the people Christ spoke to: that we can solve problems with our enemies (or even embarrass them) without violently attacking them.
It was illegal under Mosaic law to take the cloak off a man's back, as that would leave him naked, bringing shame upon both the naked one and the viewer. It's a bizarre situation where also giving someone your cloak would shame them too.
The extra mile one is the only truly selfless one, as Roman soldiers could force anyone to carry their equipment for a mile and not a step more. Romans had mile markers placed all around the empire. Your average israelite would count out their mile and immediately drop all equipment and walk off.

            Anonymous

Back then if you went a mile further you could get the Roman soldier fired because he was only allowed to make you walk the mile.

            Anonymous

He contrasts all his examples with eye for an eye, in the middle of his being hit example he says “do not resist evil”, he never specifies Roman soldier when it’s someone forcing you to go somewhere, he says don’t refuse someone who would borrow from you, and give to those who beg from you. It could not be more clear and it fits in with the broader point of Christianity. Your well being and owning of possessions are subservient to serving god, your life does not matter beyond being in lockstep with Jesus and the Father. If you get hit, you don’t fight back, if someone is suing you for your tunic, give them your cloak too, give to people who beg you, don’t refuse someone asking to borrow something, if someone hits you in the right side of your face, present them with the other side. This is not like an eye for an eye of tooth for a tooth where reciprocal violence is used for justice.
I don’t know if I’ll ever find out if people like you know they’re lying or were gaslit by someone trying to sell you a different form of Christianity.

38 You have heard that it was said, "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth."
39 But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Nonsense. There are plenty of cases where increased historical context allows us a greater understanding of the gospel. Like how Jesus calls us salt of the earth, and historically salt was most important as a preservative and disinfectant.

About half of that chapter of Matthew is dedicated to examples of people being infringed on and not fighting back, with direct instructions to not fight back, to love your enemies and explains that it’s okay because you will go to heaven if you do so.

No thanks. I’ll just post even more verses around that one further reinforcing the message of Jesus that you are under direct orders to not fight back against people who attack, insult and steal from you.
A fundamental and basic tenet of Christianity that your stupid caveman ass cannot grasp.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
            5
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
            6
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
            7
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
            8
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
            9
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.
            10
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
            11
"Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
            12
Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

You’re just making excuses because this religion is asking you to not react with violence or anger when someone attacks you, and you’re too unstable to adhere to it.
Or alternatively, you don’t sincerely believe it so you don’t take it seriously.
Or, you’re trying to use Christianity as a tribal banner for right wing conservatism and are trying to purge the inconvenient elements from Christianity fir your goals.

Regardless, you read the sermon on the mount in Matthew chapter 5 and think it’s about fighting your enemies, which is comically unintelligent.

I know you’re hopeless, this is to illustrate to any observers that you’re lying about what the Bible says and what Jesus wants. Very straightforward and simple.

You have heard that it was said, `Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' [7]
            39
But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.
            40
And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well.
            41
If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.
            42
Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.
            43
"You have heard that it was said, `Love your neighbor [8] and hate your enemy.'
            44
But I tell you: Love your enemies [9] and pray for those who persecute you,
            45
that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
            46
If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?
            47
And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?
            48
Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Keep autistically posting the same verses over and over. If you keep it up you might be able to match that Jehovah's Witness fellow in every Christian thread.

Some people cannot hear the simple message in the gospel. They are blinded.

            King James Bible

You are not an actual christian, you are indirectly calling Jesus a liar and circumventing the meaning of his words by imposing a wordly "historical context" interpretation of scripture.

            Anonymous

Nonsense. There are plenty of cases where increased historical context allows us a greater understanding of the gospel. Like how Jesus calls us salt of the earth, and historically salt was most important as a preservative and disinfectant.

Even after the turn the other cheek passage he gives more reinforcement to the idea that you treat your enemies nicely

You have heard that it was said, `Love your neighbor [8] and hate your enemy.'
44 But I tell you: Love your enemies [9] and pray for those who persecute you,
            45. that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

            >As I said, it refers to a cultural practice of the time.
This is a tenuous exegesis. None of the Church fathers interpreted the verse this way; it was instead universally regarded as a call to nonviolence in the face of oppression. Your interpretation was nonexistent until the 21st century when it was first promoted by a secular historian.

You are correct! But you are dealing with modern christians who decieve themselves and others constantly, forked tongue "believers" who hopefully will be told "Depart from me, I never knew you"

            [...]

"Aktually, u dont understand the cultural meaning of the time..."

No. The words are eternal and so plain that a simpleton and a child will understand it, but "intellectuals" will miss the simple meaning.

You realize Christians have become the Pharisees that Jesus condemned in the Bible, right? Conservative Christianity became legalistic and traditionalist while forgetting the spirit. I don't see how someone could look at the Southern Baptist Convention and say "Yep, now that REAL Christianity." American Christianity is as unappealing as Wahabbism in Saudi Arabia.

            >I don't see how someone could look at the Southern Baptist Convention and say "Yep, now that REAL Christianity."
I wouldn't say that either. But these crazy, wacky, conservative American churches are succeeding for a reason. Because they're filling a void that has been vacated by the more "sensible" churches. When mainline Protestants and mainstream Catholics have seemingly abandoned any claim to traditional Christian teaching, don't be surprised when lunatics fill the gaping hope that has been left by claiming "WE are the last true Christians", and that some people might believe them.

I don't understand. Is the argument that pandering is bad and religion should stick to its values, or that it needs proper pandering to get the crowd together?

            Anonymous

Christians should advocate for Christian values. If Christians are conceding ground and attempting to compromise, and talking about how "we need to adapt to the times", then they have already lost and are basically guaranteeing their extinction within a few short generations. Almost nobody is converting to these denominations of Christianity that have capitulated to progressivism. Just look at the Church of England and the US Episcopalians who are, quite literally, dying out.

Also it's quite funny isn't it that when it comes to this debate over whether religions should conform to modern values, all the pressure is put upon Christians to be the ones who must liberalise, while Muslims for instance (even those who live in the west) can be as traditionalist and conservative as they please and nobody will screech at them that they "need to change with the times".

You're missing the point. Young people are leaving Christianity because they've been taught that it's just rules without any practical benefit. Modern Christianity is just legalism, lots of restrictions but no love or genuine spirituality. That's what I mean when I say that conservatives are like the Pharisees. They've become completely consumed by the culture war. As a result people don't turn to liberal Christianity. They just stop going to church period or become atheists.

I get multiple different answers from different priests, saints, and even church fathers. I still believe in the creed but is fasting 2/3 of the year and attending church everyday really the answer? I already had a family and wife when I entered the church but many men there are coping losers who can't talk to women so they larp as celibate monks.

Is it really fasting when everyone at church just eats vegan meats and cheese ? I'm tired of being shamed by a bunch of tech nerds for eating meat when I work a blue collar job. Then there's the people I know just lie about their fast.

            >is worshipping God together really important

Because they go to church looking for women and when even the women at church see their sports, these men just elevate themselves to some type of proto-monk status then shame everyone who isn't trying to be a monk. Meanwhile these guys go home and drink every night and shit post racist things online. I don't care if people are racist but it's antiethical to Christianity.

It does if there is an agenda. As Father Jenkins says, white Christians are the only ones to have stood up to slavery and the only ones who have a culture against slavery so they want to replace those who would stand up to the enslavement of themselves and others. The new world order wants a bunch of slaves and to enslave people to make them the modern bugmen. Father Jenkins is Sedevacantist with no communion with Rome in a parallel organization so he can say these things the Vatican might ban him for otherwise.

That's what liberal secularists want to do by demanding that EVERYBODY has to conform to progressive values. You say that even to have a segment of society where Christians believing in traditional Christian values exist is somehow wrong and shouldn't be allowed, and that Christians have to "conform to modern values" instead.

Banning something under a big authority banner is more effective than changing minds. See Russia and how Putin banned things.

He’s not wrong. Hardline christgays (excluding literal grandpas) in Europe are 99% of the time reactionaries who don’t actually believe and just want a tribe to attack brown people and gays.

Barely anyone actually goes to Mass in Russia, the only “revival” is Putin deciding to LARP

Russia decided to ban all this homo/trans propaganda. This proves that banning works.

It also proves that atheism is based.

Only 7% of them attend mass. That's a 93% atheist nation.

Russians doesn't care about "bans". People here aren't as anti-gay as imagine.

You're right. Pentecostals are too "weird" to people looking for a trad religion based on image alone, even though Pentecostals and Evangelicals are usually a lot more hardline on all those talking points while also being devout.

It's because we're looking for culture and intellectualism in our religion. This is what it is.

You can have intellectualism in Pentecostalism. There's more to the denomination than simply speaking in tongues and rolling on the floor.

How would you find an intellectual Pentecostal church? The ones I've seen have been braindead.

In the USA, you can go church shopping to the point where you can find any community. The average doesn't matter as long as you find your niche. Only Boomers think people you don't talk to matter in your social circle.

Christian history has unraveled, and for that matter so has israeli and Islamic history. It's all laid bare. The orthodox doctrines do not derive from a unique epiphany. We see the evolution over time quite clearly.

It's impossible to believe in these religions. One has to, at best, derive their core abstractions and separate them from the tradition including the Biblical narrative itself.

The very idea that salvation is through the cross of Christ was not original in any of the sources of Christianity and developed literally only to lend authority to the church as the gatekeepers of the cross's salvation. The cross itself being the gate. How convenient.

You were not chosen before the foundation of earth, this is why you do not have faith and already condemned to hell already as John 3:16-19 tells us.

      1 Corinthians 1:18
      >For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

Bye felicia, into hellfire you will go forever

As a russian, I must ask:
Do they (vocal and obnoxious orthodox converts and tradcaths) even exist in substantial numbers and outside of the internet to be taken seriously? I bet there are more georgists and proudhonists in US than either of those people.

no. tradcath larpers are far more annoying because of how prevalent they are. most orthodox followers generally avoid the shitflinging debates that larpers participate in due to the bad faith nature. if someone is actually interested in learning about the faith they should go to church, not youtube.

Online converts can be annoying but if they are sincere I don't have a problem with them. The ones you have to watch out for are those who are excessive in their pride.
