this. 90's maiden is pure garbage

Go Beasts through Somewhere in Time. If you like it listen to Seventh Son and Brave New World. Go back to the first two albums, then listen to Dance of Death, Book of Souls and Senjutsu. The rest are not worth it.

      this until
      >then listen to Dance of Death, Book of Souls and Senjutsu. The rest are not worth it.
Matter of Life and Death and Final Frontier are vastly superior

Just listen to them and decide for yourself. They're one of the most popular metal bands for a reason (hint: the reason wasn't that they got a ton of radio play).

    >I like the cover art.
half the reason anyone got into them. they'd 100% be nowhere near as big without it. speaks volumes to the power of presentation in music.

I think the album art get people's attention and makes people give them a chance, but you don't have a 40+ year career based on album art alone. And again, they didn't get radio play. At least not in America. They simply made good music.

I guess so. They write good songs. Though I would personally rather listen to the bands they influenced instead

      >Though I would personally rather listen to the bands they influenced instead
it's like this with a lot of stuff i listen to. people wonder why i wouldn't like X because they directly inspired Y. it's like, maybe Y is their own thing and did what X did so much better. one example i can think of is how i love Dream Theater but don't like Rush at all.

the trooper and 2 minutes to midnight are their best songs imho
start there and then branch out

2 minutes to midnight is too long and plodding as a starting song. The number of the beasts or wasted years would be a better one to go with.

        The evil that men do

        >but arguably as good
        who's arguing that?

I am, the 00s albums aren't as consistently good, but there are 2-3 songs per album that are masterpieces and another 2-3 that are really good. Then there's the 2-3 that are clearly filler, but the standout ones make up for it.

Their 80s albums are all great
Their 2000s albums are more progressive, but arguably as good
    The 90s never happened

Fear of the Dark is a decent album, X factor also has some good shit but is mostly bad and has terrible production. VXI and NPTFD are trash tho
