Well, if you go by what his old friends from Whitehouse said about him when they fell out, he's a "geeky heterosexual male" and "a sexual conservative". So, an edgelord, but an interesting one.

That would make sense. The writing really come as trying too hard. Its really hard to believe any of what he says. It just sounds like someone who hates himself so much, he wants to destroy himself but is too pussy to do it. So it all pours on the paper.

I don't think he hates himself, I think he's just overly fascinated by self-destructive psychology, e.g., serial killers, gay cruisers, drug addicts, diddlers. He's a definite product of that period in the 70s and 80s of serial killers being prevalent.

          Which books have you read?

To add, while he's always been in denial about moralising, you can see a lot of it in his afterwords to Ian Brady's Gates of Janus, where hhe tears into both Brady and the guy who convinced Brady to write the book.

        *but you can see

Interesting how he spent years and years idolizing Brady but then in Gates of Janus it almost seems like he's disappointed in him even a bit repulsed. Hmm

I'm not sure he idolized Brady after Pure (though I'm also not sure if Pure was just an edgy put on). Even as early as Special, you get this moralistic sense coming out, discussing the images the police gleefully show him with this profound disgust. But yes, the Gates of Janus afterwords are totally devastating to Brady, and awfully funny in a shit stirring way.

Scans of Pure, scans of Parasite, the collection Proxy, Selfish Little, Mine. Psychologically interesting, and a great hammer to the face style, but very much "young angry man's lit". Don't have much stomah for it nowadays.

Do you have pdf of selfish little or mine? Ive heard selfish little is his best one.
Example, Lordotics was purely overwhelming in a feeling of a person who's obsession is eating him away. Sometimes it seems very masochostic

I don't, unfortunately. I think I could imagine that kind of substance coming about organically from him, someone who's much older now, and who knows that what he gets from True crime and related material now is very different than what he wanted when he was a young angry art student. I'm not sure how Mine fits with the rest of his work, but it's also the one I've spent least time with (reallybdue to circumstance than disinterest). I might have to go through it again to see how it comes across.

What else have you read? If you've read the earlier stuff, can you speak to how the style of Lordotics compares?

For example in proxy he is in his prime. Raging, angry, hateful and sadistic. Proxy reads like, this person has no limit. No stop sign. He breathes hate in and out. How did this mind go so far? How did it get so ugly?
In lordotics, he seems tired. Overwhelmed. Like an addict who doesnt do it anymore for enjoyment but does it because its a painful addiction. "what have i done?" is in between the lines. Desperation. Punishment over oneself.

Weakness even. Theres a hint of fear what would happen to his son if people find out who is his father.

Interesting. That seems to start coming up in Selfish Little, which is like a melancholy remix of the books in Proxy. Lots of embarrassment over both Pure and his last period with Whitehouse.

Hopefully someone will put selfish little on the Internet or at least put it on sale for lower price. I really want to read it

I used to find his stuff uncomfortable when I was a ternager but I looked at it recently and now he just seems like an 14 yo looking for attention.
I don't buy the "he's actually sexually conservative" bit though
