Mac doesn't use an SSD. They solder the fucking memory right onto the MB. No PCI or screws or replacing. Chips on board. And they can do whatever they want, which is why I have never bought a Mac and never will. Fuck em.

no, Apple charges $30 for the chips themselves in bulk, and $680 for the R&D that went into making Mx arch so good.

They could charge $800 for the base model and offer $50 upgrades but the business model would lead to lower adoption by the masses. So you get this pricing scheme.

Also from 1tb to 2tb it costs $360 so higher up the price range the upgrades aren't that expensive.

      everyone heard about cores
      cpu? gpu? what is that?
      38 cores! that's a lot!
      better than Intel and AMD.
      I'm buying! I'm better!

      apple is literally evil
      they are thieves and scammers
everything they do is done to trick their customers
they treat their own customers as complete imbeciles and target them as victims for their crimes

Man why is this board so retarded?
Apple's definition of cores is not the same as the ones Nvidia and AMD use. One GPU core in an Apple GPU contains 16 execution units each of which has 8 ALUs. You can't directly compare "cores" to "cores" because Nvidia and AMD's "cores" are ALUs while Apple's are similar to what the other companies would call an SM.

for gpu 38 cores is laughable

You're retarded, read above. All the companies are misleading because Apple's "core" definition, while closer to that of a CPU's cores, is a bit more arbitrary and incomparable, if we used Nvidia's definitions of "cores" for CPUs, then we'd have 16 "cores" per core.

    >Apple charges $600 for this. How is it even legal?
anon, they have been doing this for DECADES. go back to 2005 and they would charge $600 to go from 256mb of ram to 512mb of ram. 1gb of ram? $1,000. now its worse because they have been soldiering everything they can to prevent user upgrades. forcing people into buying these insanely high margin upgrades because that's why apple is charging so much. the margins.
