You could get the option up front when the vehicle is new or get it later with the subscription model. It was either or. I don't necessarily support it but the complaints about it are overblown.
it's already in the car. why should I pay more for something I already have?
This, they are not installing heated seats when you pay and switching them out when you cancel. The car already has heated seats, they're literally just making you pay to be able to turn them on. I see a future of people figuring ways around this shit like they have with the fucked up tractor software.
Suck my dick you fucking retard, you apologize for thinking that paying a subscription to turn on hardware you already bought and paid for is a good thing.
Every other industry envies the tech and media industries and how they can siphon guaranteed monthly income from people through subscriptions, leading to stupid shit like this.
The subscription based feature model makes sense when you are a car manufacturer. You can greatly simplify your production, assembly and QA lines if all cars are completely identical in hardware and software. If you simplify your factories it also means you can churn out more cars, payroll is smaller since you need less employees throughout the entire production process and you also consume less energy per manufactured car.
But who the fuck in their right mind would be ok with paying monthly for something that is "already installed"?
I don't mind subscriptions for stuff like self-driving that relies on streaming in HD maps, like GM Supercruise. That needs a modem just like your phone. Heated seats is bullshit. There's no excuse of infrastructure cost on the automaker to support.
It doesn't work like that. Making massaging heated seats still costs money, then just putting it into a dirt cheap car means you've lost the amount if cost to make.
PC makers used to do this shit back in the 90s through selling top spec equipment with low monthly rates as part of some ISP deal, but then people would just bypass all the software locks and have the machine practically for free.
Trying to lock hardware behind software will never ever work.
Subscription for software makes much more sense if they are providing consistent updates. The whole purpose of SaaS is that the software you're paying for gets new features over time (like WoW).
How the fuck is my heated seat getting better over time?
There should be a law that prevents auto manufacturers from charging subscriptions for anything that doesn't involve any sustained maintenance/service from their side.
>There should be a law that prevents ANYONE from charging subscriptions for anything that doesn't involve any sustained maintenance/service from their side.
Doesn't matter; creeping incrementalism. They have introduced the idea to the public and thus made a step towards normalisation of the concept, so within a decade it will be the norm.
People tend to forget that EVs have been doing this shit for a while already, such as Tesla. I recall some article of seethe from Tesla because some hackers managed to unlock the features on a used Tesla they bought.
This cost the equivalent of $170,000 today
/They/ don't want you comfortably affording cars
There's probably some contrarian retard on this board who supports subscription-based heated seats because "he's not poor"
kek found the poor person
Ya, you.
Wealthy people don't stay wealthy by pissing away money on bullshit.

It's BMW who should apologize
the israelites

you sound poor
Why would anyone apologize? They were retards for attempting this and no one should buy their cars.

>10 years from now
>The turk roaches can finance them used on a 29%/year interest-10 year loan
>They are now able to get a free© heated seat option if they purchase a chinese adaptor that bypasses the bmw's licensing system

the whole premise is retarded.
If it actually costed less to put heated seats in every car you would just have heated seats in the base model
I don't mind subscriptions for stuff like self-driving that relies on streaming in HD maps, like GM Supercruise. That needs a modem just like your phone. Heated seats is bullshit. There's no excuse of infrastructure cost on the automaker to support.
Its literally the software model and most of you do this already with digital hardware.
Except now they can’t use the justification that it costs more to build, because they’re already selling it to you.
if it cost less to manufacture, why should it cost more for me when I purchase it?

You are such a cuck, lmao. Keep licking boots.
“YASSSS! Paying for a subscription for everything is GOOD! LE POOR CORPORATION!”
What a pathetic mindset.
