Anxiety & Gut

Trying to keep this short:

- Anxiety usually gets worse at night
- Thoughts circle around existential themes like death, sickness and existence
- Most foods I know of make it worse after eating
- Have no gut issues tho
- Probably related to my upper intestine, perhaps being inflamed

There is definitely a brain-gut thing going on but no doctor is able to figure it out and I have no clue how to figure it out myself. I need to solve this fucking anxiety because it ruins my life since 3 years or so

Anxiety about what? A physical issue can present itself as anxiety. Your brain lives in your body. Try a shot of vinegar every other day and see if it is better or worse and that may give a clue.

You have too much free time on your hands. Do something.

I can't work 24/7. I already work, exercise and do plenty of stuff to maintain my life, but the few free hours at night to wind down after a day of work is enough to shoot my anxiety sky high. In fact the anxiety is often present throughout the day, I just don't notice it because I am busy.

      The opposite.
The reason all that shit invades you at night is because it catches you alone.
Stop distracting yourself non stop - and be alone with yourself.
Take long walks with no music.
      Here's what will happen:
      >first 5-10 minutes it's panic. too much silence, anxiety hits
      >10+ minutes the thoughts come, the same thoughts that invade you at night
      >watch them pass by and realize, and i mean REALIZE that you don't generate them. you aren't your thoughts - they're simply thoughts. let them pass through without responding or getting caught up in them. observe them and let em go.
      >30mins-1h (depending on you) you feel silence and calm - the thoughts are much less intense
      >1+ hours - you actually get inspiration. you plan. you get ideas.

The timing varies, but your problem isn't not being distracted enough, it's BEING TOO DISTRACTED.

Also write those fuckers down if need be. Journaling helps. Just vomit them on the page so they stop swirling in your head with nowhere to go.
Try this and get back to us in a month or two.

You have HOURS of free time? After 8 hours sleep, 8-10 hours work, cooking, cleaning, chores, driving, errands, etc. how do you have HOURS of free time?
You need some hobbies to keep you busy and your mind activated so you don't sit around obsessing.

Daily meditation fixed this for me. You have to train your mind to rid yourself of your destructive mental habits. Relaxing your mind will alter your body's chemistry thereby reducing inflammation, or at least that's what seemed to happen in my case. Plenty of studies testify to this. If you don't know how to meditate there's a great guide book on it called The Mind Illuminated written by neuroscientist and longtime meditator John Yates.

I have tried starting this recently again but I kind of forgot about it because of work and such. Should start again. I usually just try to focus on my breath, but my mind is often very chaotic and thoughts string me along for minutes at a time without me noticing. I know it gets better after meditating for like 2-3 weeks straight. I go for 2x30 minutes a day.

        Good, you already started.
You need to meditate DAILY. As much as you can keep it consistent. Even if it's 20 mins a day, if it's every day it's better than 2x30mins but once in a while.
The key is you noticing your thoughts and not getting hooked by them - identifying with your thoughts.
That's it. But it's a constant practice, not a cure.

I have immense anxiety which causes me stomach troubles which is exacerbated by my coping mechanism, alcohol. I feel like im burning away my stomach lining more and more by the day. and since i feel nauseous all the time i dont eat. So i eat maybe 500 calories a day while drinking vodka like it is water, worsening my nausea and my anxiety. My daily routine is
    >wake up at 4am with thoughts of at least 3 different things that make me anxious but i refuse to deal with
    >fall back asleep
    >wake up again at 8am
    >drink
    >drive to work
    >drink again
    >maybe eat a snack during the day if im lucky
    >drive home
    >drink more
    >possibly have dinner
    >play games and hang out with online friends
    >drink more
    >go to bed around 12:00 — 3:00
    >repeat
I think im going to kill myself soon, or quit my job and run away to the other end of the globe where i either continue this behaviour or kill myself there

psychosomatic conditions exist anon, but they’re super misunderstood by the medical community in general. unless you get someone who’s trained on that, you will face rejection, frustration, and even suspicion.
