Congress might pass a bill requiring all automobiles to have AM radio available in them later this year.
What do you think about this? Yes? No?

i have a ham radio in my car so i can broadcast without a license.
I thought you had to have a license to be a ham
You do and this nagger can be tracked with ease as well.
With a car you can go anywhere
you WILL listen to boomer radio talk show
seems ok to me?
Bots
Talk radio died with Rush.
WBAP fired Rick Roberts and said in a job posting that they weren’t looking for another political show.
It’s over for AM, Rush was Atlas.
Seems fine, most emergency and traffic broadcasts are done on AM except for EAS
I’ve never seen a car that doesn’t have it? This is a missing feature in some cars?
Yeah some modern electric cars are shipping without AM
EV dont have them due to electromagnetic interference. now they are starting to drop them in regular vehicles as of this year.
You WILL listen to NPR
Nah npr is on the 90.00s of FM
The concept makes sense. They could also make it mandatory for streaming apps to broadcast any emergency messages if theyre so worried about us receiving them. Unless youre OG as fuck and still regularly use an iPod or mp3 player
Fuck that; all the alerts I've gotten in Quebec have been some muslim psycho that abducted his own kids from their douchebag mothers. This is the kind of shit I really don't need to know particularly when I'm driving the insanely convoluted maze of traffic in Montreal and using my google maps to pathfind for me.
I agree fully. If we could opt out of domestic disputes and just keep the natural disasters/impending doom open it'd be less annoying. They even started putting that shit up on construction message boards near me
This is a good idea - AM radio is a safety feature
Am is great cause it travels further than FM and would be good for emergencies. I get all my traffic report over an am station that's over 100 miles from me.
Yeah I've heard AM travels farther. Which is funny because an AM station broadcasting literally like five miles from me sounds like ass consistently
It's easy to fuck with AM signals, something as simple as a large building in the way of the signal to where you are receiving can do that or something like the antenna on your device can fuck with it.
*drives under high voltage power lines*
Brrrzzzzzuuuughhhhhzzzz
There are a limited number of am frequencies that do not have to power down their transmitters at night. They are called “clear channel” stations, and cover huge areas of the country. Most stations power down and are tough to receive.
Congress should keep am available in cars because the public owns the airwaves and they are good for emergencies. Congress should repeal Clinton’s telecom acts and break up radio stations owned by conglomerates. Allowing that is what kept out innovators and competition.

Based.
I wonder if it would be popular again to send digital signals over AM and over AX.25 to recreate some real cutting-edge clever experiments for public services.
So they can broadcast to all they goylets at the same time
>SUBJECTS, please remain seated in your vehicles do not open the doors, keep your mask on and don't let outside air in until vaccinated
>The local McDriveThrough will administer your mandatory booster shots
Ham radio seems like an interesting thing to get into, I'm gonna have to look into it
I think AM has some value but I hate Hannity
>You vill listen to fox news and npr and you vill be happy.
nagger
This is probably the most wholesome bill that's passed in the last 20 years.
Radio is great for local plugged in real time info.
You could auction off fm/am radio spectrum to the highest bidder, giving the big telecoms more bandwith for wifi or whatever. Id like to see radio have more of a local and regional focus, less wifi serving up AdSense google national content, more local music, weather, fire, and sneed and feeds.
That would be nice.
It would be great to hear about local issues on the radio but most of the radio stations on my dial seem to be owned by corporations that play the same shit no matter where in the country you are.
I have a local FM station where I live. Our AM station was bought by I Fart Radio and has become more and more cucked since that happened. After Rush died we got those two glowies Clay and Buck. I miss Rush, bros.
i think your delusional and a weak homosexual
What is it that makes me weak? What is it that makes me a homosexual?
why the fuck would they do this?
Something about AM radio being good for emergency notices and the like
yeah cuz every homosexual doesn't have a phone that gets EAM
Some people might have a good reason not to carry a phone. Anyone carrying a phone can have their location pinpointed instantly, for instance.l
yeah ok those people don't give a shit about emergencies tho. they're already preppers who don't have microwaves because they think the government is listening through them.
No radio show will ever top the Ricky Gervais show on XFM 104.9 in the early 2000's.
Weird init?
>no Cd player
it's like they don't understand Gen X 🙁
Zat 'as gone zi way of zi sunroof and zi cigarette lighter, I'm afraid anon.
What are they gonna come for next, the aux jack?
Gotta make sure I can't even plug in my own devices haha
>Gotta make sure I can't even plug in my own devices haha
And they will call it a FEATURE
Get a Lexus. I think they still have them.
nifty
yeah they use USB for cig lighter/aux ports now too 🙁
with all the signs on the road saying "tune in for road announcements at 9000 AM" it's only reasonable
the best way would be to actually passively monitor that and tune in to that shit automatically
I love AM radio, especially when you can hear the lightning from a distant storm coming through on the channel.
This is now an Art Bell/Coast to Coast AM thread.
On an unrelated note, I wish more music would make use of the stereo panning. It's super annoying for a supposedly stereo recording to sound like it's mono.
