If you've ever wondered what higher dimensional thought is like just look around, but not by interpreting what you see, the _seeing_ is the "thought".
And if you want to know how badly your growth has been stunted by agents of darkness seeking to contain you, then just notice how difficult it is (almost impossible for most people) to focus on pure sensations such as vision (i.e. color and even depth perception). You can easily focus on the symbolic ideas of "colored objects" and understand their spatial layout but that means you're still only focusing on your symbolic mind, but are you able to focus on the PURE sensation of color and depth perception itself?
If not, then your ability to "think" in higher dimensions is like that of an infant. It has been retarded (stunted) to keep you controlled.
The symbolic world you interpret everything through is the Matrix. Darkness wants you locked into 1 small region of true reality (a small subset of that higher mind), so it lures your awareness into believing everything is interpreted through symbolic means. You "subconsciously" see what's real, but you _reduce_ it down to the symbolic and call that "seeing" instead, and then only have awareness of the symbol.
We're taught that what's real is an illusion created by the symbolic, and that the symbol (ideas understood by your human mind, like "matter") are real.
Human souls have literally been turned inside out.

the phenomenon you describe is true, but i dont believe its as sinister as you think. It would make more sense that it is an evolutionary trait of pattern recognition. (which probably started way before society)

This is one of the things that psychedelics are helpful with. Not that you should use them, but to get the feeling of what it's like to look at a "chair" and recognize it as a completely unique collection of matter with its own unique frequency and idiosyncracies.
