I'm a pretty big sporkfag, so I was hesitant to listen to this because I assumed it would be a boring 2 disc dronefest. When I heard it, I immediately loved it.
I fucking adore how this album uses a bunch of disparate, eclectic sounds to create a massive soundscape. It kinda reminds me of the way the *other* 1996 double album autists rave about (Cardiacs' Sing to God) builds it's own unique sonic world, but of course, Tim Smith came to a much different artistic conclusion than Gira did.
I'm looking for albums like this. They don't need to *sound* like Soundtracks for the Blind or Sing to God, they just need to have a similar ethos of creation.
this album sucks and you sound like a insanely annoying pretentious homosexual
Dumb ass underage newfag moron
>actually talks about music in a music board
>"newfag pretentious homosexual underage"
genuinely consider ending your sham of a life
You're a self-proclaimed sporkfag, nobody cares, cunt
talking about music on the music board is fine, but don’t act so hysterical when people point out the music being discussed is shitty and indicative of you having shit taste.
genuinely convinced no one in this thread has ever experienced joy in any situation
>genuinely convinced no one in this thread has ever experienced joy in any situation
thats this entire board now, unironically better to just move on at this point
This album feels like a box of assorted chocolates, you don't love every single one, but it's still great and very tasty.
I've been left alone for several hours and I played Trout Mask Replica entirely. I felt great, I'm still feeling it.
underrated XTC pick
>thread full of bitching about state of LULZ
>only post itt to answer op's question
>ignored
hmm i wonder why this board sucks
fantastic album! i need to relisten, it's been a while.
I realize this is obvious, but check out the other Swans albums, especially the Seer and To Be Kind.
I would also recommend Larks Tongues in Aspic by King Crimson. It’s a super unique progressive rock album that combines lots of influences, like hard rock, folk, and classical. There’s lots of diverse instrumentals and I would consider songs like the title tracks and Exiles to be “massive”. If you like that also listen to Islands(more classical influence), Starless and Bible Black(more improvy/abstract) and Red(more conventional but also has more of that massive sound). If you want to go further their live albums are fantastic, even the newer ones.
Also early Pink Floyd(pre Dark Side of the Moon) could be what you are looking for. I think songs like Atom Heart Mother and Echoes are both “massive” and eclectic. I like everything they did in that era. Also listen to the Early Years compilations(there’s about 6 of them) for outtakes and live stuff.
I haven’t listened to the Cardiacs so I’m not sure what they sound like, but a click glance at the rym page makes me want to recommend A Wizard True Star by Todd Rundgren and the White Album by the Beatles if you like eclectic yet melodic and catchy.
I haven’t listened to them a lot, but a buddy of mine who really loves this album is also a huge fan of the band Boris. They’re mostly doom metal from what I’ve heard but they’ve got lots of different influences. The album Feedbacker(I’m not sure if that’s the correct title but it has a chick lying on the ground for its cover) is his favorite.
Also for “massive” sounds I’d check out some atmospheric black metal like Burzum and Drudkh. My favorites of theirs are Hvis Lyset Tar Oss and Estrangment respectively.
I realize these are all “touristy” picks but it seems like you aren’t getting much help otherwise.
Good suggestion, great folky album.
Tourist schlock
Oh you said it yourself
Anything you’d care to recommend? I’m not huge into the more “atmospheric” side of music so I definitely am a tourist for that stuff. I’m mostly a classic rock/soul fan.
This is a really cool album. Very weird synthy stuff. It gives dreamlike/liminal space vibes imo.
Liminal space lmao lol fuck off brainlet
thank you! imo there's nothing wrong with "tourist" albums, because everyone needs to start somewhere!
At least be a real tourist then and dont rely on tour guides.
Do your fuckin research
the spirit of this website is contradictory. most of the time you get sincere posts, since everyone's anonymous and there's no reason to let social niceties interfere with communication; at the same time, it seems that nobody is sincere. when someone is too sincere (see OP) they get shamed for the things they revealed about themselves. sincerity is taboo
anyway i don't have any recommendations because i've never listened to that album. good luck finding something
It's less about OP being sincere and more about him not having brainwaves as strong as other smarter people
they genuinely do not care about music, they care about the aesthetics of the music, the culture around it. they are the hipster pseuds they whine about, and they don't even know it.
Lmao the projection goes deep
Drainland is best
Where’s the pretentiousness? It’s just a guy enjoying music and using somewhat flowery music critic language. Anyways if you are into electronic music you might like Planetary Natural Love Gas Webbin.
i've been meaning to check that out for years now. will have to listen!
I'd recommend Not Available - The Residents
Henri Pousseur - Paysages Planétaires
3 hours 35 minutes long sound collage/electroacoustic album with the concept of exploring indigenous cultures from around the world. Crazy album. Feels absolutely massive. One of my favorites.
woah that sounds sick! thanks for the rec!
This is exactly the type of thing I look for in music. This is what I've found so far. This type of thing is pretty subjective, but these are the albums that I think craft the most evocative atmospheres. Then again, I didn't think Sing To God was all that so I might be way off on what you're looking for.
Not everything is me.
Also no, my life's pretty good, thanks for asking. I just dont like you
Stabscotch - Uncanny Valley
Spirit They’re Gone, Spirit They’ve Vanished
