Album boring as hell

Gotta say, I had pretty high hopes for this one given how cool an album it is to like and the general reverence for Soundgarden among the grunge acts. And I was not impressed at all. I kind of like Slaves and Bulldozers, though it goes on way too long like every song does, and Face Pollution is pretty fun, but it's all so basic and forgettable, kind of shelf-filler grunge, on par with Pearl Jam's Ten or slightly below. I quite like Black Hole Sun but none of the cool musicality in that song is present here with every song being built off the most minimal amount of musical content. I wouldn't turn it off if it came on the radio (atleast not at first) but I have no idea how this became so revered.
tldr: Just listen to Led Zeppelin or Big Wreck

Soundgarden lacks songwriting skills, their songs bore me a lot. Nevermind, Ten, Dirt and Purple are so fucking superior to any Soundgarden album.
Their only memorable songs are Black Hole Sun and a 2 more and even that feels empty.

Ten is the only album I can enjoy from Pearl Jam.
Even that, compositively speaking, Ten is far superior to any boring strident song of Soundgarden.

Superunknown is their least boring album, and it's got like 40 minutes of filler and overlong songs

It's very up and down. Jesus Christ Pose is their most overrated single and is only known for it's le edgy religious commentary lyrics and video.

literally the worst song. If you don't like outshined, searching with my good eye closed or mind riot then the albmum's not for you

Screaming Life & Superunknown are their best ones. But I do have a spot for side 2 of Badmotorfinger.

soundgarden haters are brain damaged, i don't even know how they can listen to dirt, ten, nevermind or core and think that it's better than badmotorfinger. they are good records but soundgarden just had better musicians, more interesting sounds, and the best vocalist of the genre. screaming trees beats them all though tbf so just go listen to dust or sweet oblivion.

Soundgarden were good musicians but were absolutely not better than STP.

they were difinitely better musicians than stp, i can't think of a single stp song from core, purple, tiny songs, or 4 that have the musical technicality on par with soundgarden songs, maybe piece of pie but thats about all i can think of. i love stp but i disagree.

tiny music, not tiny songs, my bad

but speaking of that song seven caged tigers is probably my favorite stp song

i think it's probably tied with BMF, not as good as DPTU, Superunknown or Screaming Life but a very solid record and a great comeback.

I didn't even know what to think about KA when it first came out. I loved the art direction and the music seemed kinda meh and didn't really grab me. But I never stopped listening to it and I rarely skip any of the songs when they come on random and have the vinyl for when I want to listen to it seriously.

any praise for soundgarden is always
    >chris cornell had an amazing voice. RIP
    >omg unique time signatures?!?!

and thats it. no one actually cares about the song-writing, or any record that isnt superunknown or badmotorfinger

it's like clockwork. rinse and repeat

I think they have good riffs, lyrics are relatable.

“Well I just looked in the mirror
And things aren't looking so good
      I'm looking California
      And feeling Minnesota
      Oh yeah…….

Well I'm feeling that I'm sober
      Even though I'm drinking
Well I can't get any lower
      Still I feel I'm sinking.”

As an attractive robust male who has dealt with addiction and depression it’s very relatable.

Down on the Upside and Louder than are also great. Guitar tone is also amazing specially in this album.
Just please tell what's good songwriting?

They have good melodies and production. Down on the Upside is decent too. I would advise you to immediately cease your HRT. It seems like it’s affecting your hearing.

Chris is a good singer for sure but the pedestal grunge fans put him on is strange. He's basically a better version of the Led Zeppelin singer but the songwriting, which is the more important part, is significantly better on LZ's side. (and I know they're overrated and don't always put out bangers, but they've got a much better batting average and general creativity than Soundgarden)

        >led zep more creative

i love led zep, but all the "stolen blues riff stuff isn't just meme bullshit. and the riff work done by thayil is fantastic, definitely the most creative riffing i've heard from seattle other than from jimi hendrix

other musicians in the Grunge scene praise guys like Cornell and Matt Cameron for their songwriting ability

      Eddie Vedder on Cameron:
      >Matt Cameron writes songs and we run to find step stools in order to reach his level, ... what comes naturally to him leaves us with our heads cocked like the confused dogs that we are, ... eventually getting it. Did we mention he's the greatest drummer on the planet?

      Jeff Ament on Cornell:
      >I've always said that Chris was the greatest songwriter to ever come out of Seattle. Jimi Hendrix could play the guitar like crazy, but Chris had the song-writing chops that we all sort of hoped to get to at different points in our songwriting careers. He had a way he could wrap a melody around odd time signatures and weird parts and make them catchy.

Room a Thousand years wide is their best song. It's the only Soundgarden song I even like

  13. 2 weeks ago

Room a thousand years Wide is still a favorite of mine. Putting Sax in a grunge/stoner metal song is the kind of left field move that makes Soundgarden so endearing to me.

I know what you mean when you say boring. But it's hard to pin down why. Cause when it works, it blows everything else out of the water. Maybe if they'd had a "playful mode" as a relief from the suicidal dirge vs stoner metal binary
