          Their geographic Presence in magna graecia and greece proper indicates a culture exclusively seeking out, invading, settling in greek communities and assimilating the locals

          Anatolia Migration hypothesis better explains this movement than illyria theory. Namely because turkish, the other culture that came to europe from anatolia, followed a very similar geographic settlement pattern.

        the Albania south of the Caucasus is unrelated. In both peoples' cases "albanian" is an exonym, ergo what other people call them. They were called by the same name but they are unrelated people. As you said modern Albanians are genetically just the same balkaners as everyone else in the region. Linguistically though Albanian is the only remaining Illyric language.

        • 2 years ago
          Anonymous

          >only remaining illyric language
          Wrong, its too close to armenian and greek to be illyrian. Plus, its dynamic spread into the south during the middle ages (in the same Pattern as turkish) cant be explained by it being an archaic culture of the balkans.

          Its most likely that the greco-phrygian-armenian family had a few other unknown members, one of which being the ancestor of albanian. When the turks came to the region in the 11th century, the culture began a migration westwards (armenian did the same exact thing, towards cyprus, cilicia, and galatia). As the turks spread westwards, the albanian culture moved as well. This fleeing from turkish persecution is a strong theme in all of their national legends.

          Their presence all over the ancient metropolises and mighty cultural centers of the greek world (athens, corinth, zara, naples, messina, syracuse, calabria, and epirus) betrays them as an stronger, invading, assimilatory culture that is being adopted by natives of the other culture (greek).

          Plus, the illyrian hypothesis was strongly pushed by the commie regime, thereby proving it is ~~*fake*~~ and ~~*gay*~~.

          The albanian people are genetically indistinct from the rest of balkaners. However, their language is a newcomer to europe from anatolia/caucasus.

          I dont know why this offends albanians so badly. Hungarian has a very similar history.

            I think this is probably correct.
            Toponyms also point to Albanian being from further inland as opposed to the coast.

            In general it's very likely there are numerous adjacent or para-groups we don't adequately know about even as late as antiquity.

    Most are northern greeks and italians. Their autosomal profile is identical to these two, see Clemente et al 2021

      They are like those ugly bawds that wear too much makeup and criticize others, probably because while they speak Slavic they look completely different to other Slavs and look more like middle easterners.

    Judging by the severe lack of sea-related Albanian words, Albanians probably aren't Illyrians.

    • 2 years ago
      Anonymous

      There are a lot of sea related words, also the coastlines of Adriatic were early colonized by Greeks and later completely by Romans. By the time Slavs showed up in Balkans, Dalmatia and other regions in what is now Bosnia, Serbia, etc were Latinized, those people are known as Vlachs, a lot of them were massively Slavized and make up a great part of South Slavic people.
      The mountainous areas of Albania from Pindus mountains to Dinaric Alps were barely affected or settled by Rome

      • 2 years ago
        Anonymous

        >There are a lot of sea related words
        Nah, they use loanwords for most stuff. Breg (coast) from Slavic, peshke (fish) from Latin, varkë (boat) from Greek, etc.
        >were barely affected or settled by Rome
        Most of the Balkans is fairly sparse in your map.

          Buze deti is also used, Buze meaning Lips but also Edge, similarity with origin for the name of Byzantion has been theorized.
          Though it´s a lot of place names that has striking similarity with Albanian.
          Illyria=Ylli =Star
          Dalmatia=Delme=Sheep

            >Though it´s a lot of place names that has striking similarity with Albanian.
            Well I didn't say that Albanian was completely unrelated to Illyrian. A Paleo-Balkan origin seems very likely, but it probably some tribe from the inland who migrated to modern Albania rather than the Illyrians indigenous to the area.

          • 2 years ago

            Does it matter though, mountains of Albania like Basque areas, Wales and Scottish highlands, Caucasus etc, are more of a place where you take last refugee than migrate to.

          They were semi nomadic, moving with giant heards of mostly sheep all the way from northern Greece to southern Poland, proto Albanians had probably similar lifestyle but more confined to their region. Vlachs of Albania and Greece known as Aromanians were forced to settle for good by Ali of Yannina who want to create a centralized province.
