why when you watch at illyrian map you see their territory being in croatia and bosnia (modern day) and ONLY northen albania, het all albanian claims all of albanians come from illyrians? could ghey desceneds from more tribes than illyrians. What other tribes have been in the balkan beside the yllirians?
Are you a troll,Op
Kotor was never part of the Ottoman empire, while Shkoder was. The pic in the OP was based on Chelebiya descriptions of Shkoder citizens of the time
Venetians recruited from the region not the actual city
http://www.albanianhistory.net/1662_Chelebi/index.html
"Clothing of the manly men. They all wear broadcloth garments and tight buttoned trousers with a teybend silk waistband and kubadi shoes. On their heads, they wear Albanian calpacs made of sable. Both learned scholars (ulema) and rakish youths (levendât) alike carry kortela knives in their belts, and the youth are never to be seen without their swords and shields."
My post meant to be to OP
Actual Illyria has always been in what is mostly Albania, romans first conquest were in that region and called thereafter Illyrians every other tribe with simililar language and culture
what is paleobalkanic, is it a language??? how can it have given them both albanian and greek, they don't sounds the same at all?
Thar classification is based on the study by Cambridge University. The study itself is free to read
https://www.cambridge.org/core/books/indoeuropean-language-family/4B44B5ACF0D3BBA89B9408050F112A52
The Epirus tribes and the Molossi League are considered as Illyrian tribes that got hellenized by the Albanian community.
Maybe, but as far as I know, there are no noteworthy Albanian crusaders of that period. The crusades however would lead to the seizing of Albanian lands in Byzantine empire by Angevins, the strengthening of Albanian families and after Regnum Albanie of Robert Anjou fell, the creation of the medieval Albanian principalities
The most unique aspects of Albanian culture are the ones regarding besa(honour) and gjakmarrje (blood feud).
>janjevci
Didn't know about that, huh. I'll be sure to read about them
Complicated. Albania was always diverse in religion. Even the first Albanian state, Arbanon, pandered to both catholicism and orthodoxy, unlike other Balkan states. After League of Lezhe fell, almost all of Albania's nobility fled, which left ownerless lands. At first Ottomans tried converting by force and tax, but in the end, especially during the 17th century when Albanian convertions actually started rising, they pandered to Albanians by promising fiefs for those who converted. Also the janissary system would take christian boys and return them as muslim leaders for the regions they came from.
You may not think of it now, but even Serbia, Bulgaria and Greece had a large muslim population up until their independence movements, when they killed or expelled the majority. In Albania this didn't happen.
what was albanian pagan religion lile? is there form of religion paganism left in todays albanian/ albanians (kosovo macedoni)?
The religion of Illyria was one of the earliest centers of Christian conversion. By the time the Albanians were truly synthesized, around the 600s, the region had abandoned completely any form of native paganism. However there are traces of paganism, like the name of thursday (E enjte)< pointing out the veneration of an old diety with the name En, friday (E premte) pointing out an early veneration of Prenda, a diety akin to Venera, and quite some other customs like Buzm and Tomor.
This is much more contemporary stuff, but it mostly has to do with the early 2000s drug crisis in Albania, when a large number of drugs entered the country, because of lack of control, and later Albanians themselves decided to "cash in" in this market. With time passing, the government strengthened the policy but many politicians also cooperate with drug mafia in order to get votes and more power
We get roughly as much info for Illyrians by Hellenes as any other barbarian that didn't write. And Illyrians themselves did not write, so we know almost nothing about their language
can you give me where illyrians come from and how they ended up in the b1lkan, 1lso what other people were in europe during that time they arrived?
are albanian considered white meople too?
are today albani1n of albania atheist or muslim still? how many chatolic is there? 20% or 30%?
>can you give me where illyrians come from and how they ended up in the b1lkan, 1lso what other people were in europe during that time they arrived?
There are two main theories about Illyrians.
The first is that the Illyrian culture came in a wave of inrush from the east, unrelated to the native population of pre-IE Balkans
The other theory suggest that the Illyrian culture was the result of a merge between bronze age Indo-European and native non-IE Balkan people. This merge resulted, around the start of the Iron Age, on the creation of the Illyrian culture, along with others like Dacians and Thracians
>are white people considered white people too?
We didn't learn that at the university. I guess because race isn't a thing in Europe. It's used mostly in colonies.
>are today albanians of albania atheist or muslim
Albanian muslims, somewhere in between. They don't pray or cover themselves, but they celebrate the holidays, circumcise and don't eat pork, even though they do drink.
About the catholics, they are mostly north.
could be the god En, a proemiscuent god, like THE diety that everyone would worship? isn't he the god of light or sun, I fon't remember?
hmm any strange things about albanians or fun facts about them?
>could be the god En, a proemiscuent god, like THE diety that everyone would worship? isn't he the god of light or sun, I fon't remember?
We know nothing about him, only the fact Thursday bears his name
>hmm any strange things about albanians or fun facts about them?
Imo the most interesting thing about Albanians is the language
also why albanian shares same genetic as african, are they from africa?
The most widespread Y haplogroup in Albanians is E-V13, which came from West Asian E-M78 around 5500 years ago, and it is thought they brought farming to the Balkans. These E-M78 much earlier came from Africa yes, but we are talking for several thousands of years.
are they farmers or gather people?
did we find illyrian villages?
They were part of the so called EEF(Early European farmers), which lived in Balkans before the Indo European inrush.
Yes, there are ruins of Illyrian villages and cities
did albanian lived in kosovo long long time ago or they were deported by ottomans during middle age, same with west macedonia?
Albanians seemed to have been more prevelant in western Kosovo around Prizen and from their probably spread further after the Ottomans took over. Their was definetly a general degree of overlap between Albanians and Serbs in the southern Serb-northern Albanian area.
there's a book of ismail kadare thag speak about rapsody. do this really come from albanians?
Albanians were in Kosovo before the Ottomans arrived. There are letters from Ragusan merchants and toponyms in Kosovo that bear Albanian names
can I trust this wiki page? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albanian_folk_beliefs
also what can you say about the language? does it use its own logic and structure or its the same as latin/or greek?
OK guys I've got to go now
Nice chatting
This video is a nice starting point about Albanian. It focuses on the complexity of Albanian mood system
It's a REALLY complicated story, in which many elements influence.
The fall of communism, the pyramid schemes, the main party losing the elections, the yugoslav wars and many other things
no don't go please
on a side note its interesting how when christians fuck, do drugs, never go to church but call themselves catholic and maybe have a virgin mary tatoo they are unequivocally counted as catholic, but muslims who identitify but dont practice the faith closely are generally considered outside the fold
Because being a muslim who follows non of the rules except maybe pork is an outliar. A homosexual catholic who doesnt believe Jesus, God or even the Pope exists still gets counted cause if they didnt Catholicism and preety much most of christianity in total would be reduced to 9% of its current size.
How come lazaret grew so much pot before it fell, how come albania grows so much pot to begin with, and how come albanian mafia controls so much of the pot trade in east europe?
>Didn't know about that, huh. I'll be sure to read about them
They are catholic albanians that larp as croats
We cant fucking get rid of them theyre a fucking affliction
Albanians are fine, good honest serious people, you dont fuck with them they dont fuck with you, all good
But janjevci... Jesus fucked a hedgehog man...
What are some agricultural practices unique to the region
also do they have unique culture of their own or they got turkified by ottomans? do some have remain to this day? why all balkan have the same culture , dance the sae way, have the same music,etc...?
Are they Illyrians
did some albanians participated to the first crusade ,when the crusaders passed by albania to go to jerusalem?
Why do so many Albanians take over chain restaurants/fast food joints in America? Where I live the chain coffee shops look like a front for the Albanian mafia or something
Not OP but, the way they work is they help each other out, lend each other money and employ each other, so they all start buisnesses and keep each others buisnesses up
We could all look up to them and learn from theyr example
So they’re the poor man’s israelite?
Why the fuck did you have to inflick janjevci upon the world?
I don't understand why they decoed to turn muslim, can you tell me why?
why did greek never recorded nothing from illurian tribes? we know nothing about them, why greeks didn't care about illyrians??
I found this time period of Albania to be most interesting. Muhammad Ali also rises to prominence around the same time.
Was he the guy that conquered egipt?
Yes, although the whole story is less of a conventional invasion and more of him usurping power in a power vaccume from what I can tell.
>returning back home to your family after great adventures throughout the Ottoman Empire and beyond.
That period was great, even though technically subject to the ottomans, they were more worried about Various albanian Pashas than they about Turks, to bad that it went over their head like with Ali of Yanina and everything went downhill
The fall of the pashaliks marks the beginning of Albanian Enlightement
Technically yes because it was during the national romanticism era which was popular everywhere in Europe during the mid 19th century, but who knows what might have been if any of the pashaliks would get independence in early 19th century like the Serbs and Greeks did.
Even Napoleon himself wanted the pashas in his side
>pashaliks
>Greeks
lmao Greeks were literally Chrisitan Turks before emergence of Romanticism.
Why do you study nothing
Tell us about the albanian language
Its the veirdest language in europe
Like albanians can learn to talk other languages somewhat, but learning to speak albanian is almost impossible
can you explain in detail that civil war in the late 90s that emerged after those pyramid schemes?
do i get that correctly that the south of the country was completely controlled by mafias?
Gheg = TRVE ILLVRIANS
Tosk = Greek mutts
Wrong
tosks are pure greeks
I like your image, but the highlanders are taller and have higher incidence of blondness than cityfolk.
