>a country so rotten that even 500 years after its fall it's still a synonymous of intrigues, corruption, bloatedness and thievery
>there are many homosexuals who miss it
Is it some sort of masochism?

christianity didn't ruin rome, but it sure as hell ruined byzantium
politics and overweening self-interest is what destroys any institution, gov't or religion or anything else.
Every kingdom in ancient times had a religion to go along with it, and every gov't eventually collapsed due to corruption and infighting. It's not religion that is the issue, it's human nature that is the issue (and gov't attracts the absolute worst of humanity)
Yup. It's why the ancient Greeks liked the idea of a random lottery that chose leaders bc all the assholes try to govern others while nor.al people simply don't want that type kof power over others.
Yeah because Western Europe didn’t have Christianity at the same time as the Byzantines
The papist heresy celebrated in the west has little to nothing in common with true Christianity
>lasts another 1000 years
yeah it sure got ruined alright
Their corrupt behaviour was inherited from the Roman Empire though with its constant civil wars and emperor killings.
The same guy who Christianized the empire moved the capital there to begin with.
All the sectarian controversies sapped its strength to a degree that I'd rate it a negative force in Byzantine history, but it's hard to say "ruined" when it was founded by a Christian and only had one non-Christian emperor (whose Persian campaign was in any case a disaster) in its history.
The greatest empire that Europe ever spawned, the British Empire, was Christian.
>British Empire
>Christian
Pick one
Same exact empire you fucking daft retard
r1b-l23/r1b-z2103 really fucking suck
It's probably because the turks were even worse
The turks straight up co-opted the byzantine system of ruling for 300 years my guy.
And blended with Shariah and turk specific stuff like kidnapping children to feed the empire's structures.
So yeah, worse.
>Parasitically delegating all innovation to your betters who you constantly impede on, crippling multiple civilizations into stagnation.
Chad as fuck, and essentially no different than our modern governments.
No
Yeah but think of the aesthetics though
why yes
It was an aesthetic empire with interesting political figures and diplomacy. I don't get the hate
Basically Western European rulers derived a lot of their legitimacy from 1: Being the "true heir" of Rome in some fashion or another. And 2: Being ordained by God through the "One True Religion" of Roman Catholicism. Therefore the West really couldn't acknowledge the legitimacy of a state that said 1: They were in fact the Roman Empire which would make your claim of being the heir of Rome either a: outright fake, or b:mean you had to swear allegiance to them. And
2: That your religion was false and not a real source of legitimacy and their different one was.
Add in to that just good old fashioned post-enlightenment racism and the West has all the reason to try and shit on the Byzies.
>synonymous
Let's be real, who the fuck ever heard or used byzantine as a synonym for any of these before learning of the naming controversies?
Ans how are any of those things you list different from virtually every other state? You're gonna tell me the Frankish succession was free from political intrigue? Or that the Papal States weren't corrupt? Or that the HRE wasn't bloated?
The word is also just synonymous with something overly complex
>>a country so rotten that even 500 years after its fall it's still a synonymous of intrigues, corruption, bloatedness and thievery
Nah that's just westcuck propaganda
Byzantium was by far the best medieval state to live in
>t. greek
>t.western european
It literally wasn't, which is why so many Greeks in actual Greece preferred rule by Normans.
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1746452.Count_Bohemond
>t. Norman internet defense force
NIDF
Byzantium gained fans on the internet, much like Orthodoxy. Why? Nobody knows, the internet is a magic place.
It's a kino Europa Universalis campaign, I totally understand the fanboyism I'm just surprised Grenada/al-Andalus didn't get similar.
lmao no
byzantines had a sewer system and showered every other day while western europeans were shitting in bushes
>posts historical fiction
Keep seething, you will never be roman
Nobody misses it besides a few larpers online and a bunch of incel monks
Byzaboos VGH about the ere mostly due to projected modern politics and literal memes that propagated through pop history, not to mention sheer propaganda that got taken at face value by 18th-19th century retards, ever the bane of humanities.
I have a soft spot for these guys in the meme sense because I'm a Paradox autist, but I also have a soft spot for Imperial Germany as a Paradox autist. Anybody who's unironic in either case can be disregarded out of hand as an underage memelord.
>istanbul
It's Constantinople
>Constantinople
It's Byzantion.
>Constantinople
It's Constantinopoli. Some years ago I went on a holiday to Istanbul and then visited family in Greece. No matter where you go in the country, the moment you say the word Istanbul they reflexively correct you with Constantinople.
Thats not true at all you fucking larping retard. I was just fucking there and greekfags were correcting me any time i said constantinople. I would say it and they said
>oh you mean istanbul?
Why do you lie on the internet?
Why would I larp about a story that describes Greeks as autistic? Your story seems less believeable as Greeks are pedantic about history and continue using older names. In 2015 they were still referring to North Macedonia (then still Republic of Macedonia) as "Fyrom" pronounced as a single word. Greeks still officially call France and Iran Gaul and Persia, why wouldn't they continue calling Istanbul Constantinople? Especially when it was officially renamed to Istanbul by a people and government they hate.
Modern Greeks are self-hating Romans
If they're proud of their history, why do they LARP as Greeks?
Because the real Roman's are the Turks
Its ISTANBVL
The admiration for Byzantium is almost entirely a 20th-21th century phenomenon. Before this it was universally viewed with distain and perceived as a corruption of Roman civilisation.
This is because the west had to destroy Byzantium to enforce its illegitimate claims of Germans being the Holy Roman emperor
Sigh. I will settle this ancient dispute.
BOTH are legitimate in their claims.
The germans are the rightful inheritors of europe ever since the OG romans mixed themselves away. But the political office of the emperor in constantinople is the rightful office for rule over the rightful roman empire. The two are inseperable.
A german must legitimately come to the throne of the roman emperor.
Legend says that when this happens, it will be Jesus Christ.
>A german must legitimately come to the throne of the roman emperor.
>Legend says that when this happens, it will be Jesus Christ.
Now you g*rms are wewuzzing Jesus to be a German? This is worse than the English saying Christ spent his teenage years in England.
>be Eastern Roman Empire
>outlive the Western half, write more history pages in Roman history than it
>domestically Greek language and culture dominates
>be the Empire that lived a thousand years, the superpower of what was then the known world
>so immeasurably based that you make the descendants of your enemies, whether western pedofags priests or roaches with lahmacun-backed currencies , seethe at the thought of you throughout the chronicles of humanity up to today
>op is one of them, decides to complain on LULZ about you, labeling you a "country"
your homosexual state was never roman hans
>the superpower of what was then the known world
>gets mogged by arabs, slavs, white crusading trash and turks
>Byzantine culture
>Greek
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA
