i have gnome, firefox, tor browser, terminals, strawberry, jdownloader, bitwarden, keepassxc, qbittorrent, vscode and some VMs on qemu/libvirt, my machine is using 10gb of ram
if you can't survive on 8gb you're doing some weird shit
Remember when Niklaus Wirth described modern computing as "an empire of waste"? That was decades ago.
Now you can't even have 1Kb of text on a screen with a few thin border lines without some javascript dev telling you EIGHT BILLION BYTES of memory isn't enough.
>an empire of waste
No man, i disagree. Everything in pcs became bigger cuz of doing it better. Everything looks better, everything is easy to read and edit, has a lot of tools and helping libraries. I don't see any waste in it. Or we can say that making c++ of c is just adding the waste. >But it's not true!
>8Gb ram is more than enough
I totally disagree. You know, sometimes i run really heavy processes like minecraft with 2048 render distance, unreal engine, bf2042. the last one consumes about 6-8gb, while minecraft consumes 15gb with this render distance (doing it for fun but it acually looks cool). So the UE consumes about 6gb if it is a really heavy project. Keep in mind that i need to run several apps at one time such as UE, VS2022, browser (I use Brave) and some other helping processes. It may be enough for you, for any common user, but definitely not for me. > I have 16gb and sometimes it's not enough
sorry ashley but in the year of 1993+20 16gb is the minimum for comfortable experience
I hardly ever go above 6gb of usage with browsing, gaming and editing
you must be playing old games and doing light editing then, not that it's a bad thing but modern games sadly use more ram than that
>99% of this is his browser with 6 tabs open
not him but i have 18 tabs open and barely going on 5gb
ssd swap just works
Agreed. And he plays sapper and edits txt files.
>1993 + 20
>2013
how time flies anon
You will never be an 18 year old again and your joints are all fucked. Kill naggerpiller.
Agreed.
it would've been enough for me if i didn't use virtual machines, but not everybody uses them so it could be a standart without anyone complaining

pyshit
i didn't think that the python memory management is soooo bad.
512KB of ram on microsoft windows is like 2048KB on other OS
Swap it

same, 2 librewolf instances with 12 tabs combined, terminal and dwm and im only using 1.9gb of ram (and most is taken up by librewolf)
8GB of VRAM isn't nearly enough.
On Apple, at least. It's equivalent to 16GB on PC. lel

but you said 8 Giga BIT is more than enough!! that means you're saying 1GiB of ram is enough!! the egg is on your face, you fool!! hahahaha

It would be enough, if people actually knew how to optimize code, but they don’t.
