4090 will be at least 1499$

Nvidia will let 3000 series co-exist with 4090 (and maybe a 4080) so they are not going to release any model that is close to the price of a 3090ti.

If 4090 is 60% faster than a 3090ti it will cost at least 40% more which is 1540$.

I agree with you on principle, I haven't bought a new GPU since 1060 6 years ago. Nor a new CPU since 2015.

Unfortunately they have accelerators now to force upgrades.
my 1080 is powerful enough, but only the 30-series has AV1 acceleration so to watch 8k videos I have no choice.
Now you might think "why does the guy want 8k", the answer lies in the compression, on youtube you always need double the resolution since it's compressed to shit.

A i5 + mobo is gonna be some $250+ and worse performance than my current computer, even assuming I have compatible ram and other parts for it, it doesn't make sense.
A 3050/3060 is a better option than that. But those are VRAM gimped, so no big ML models, and not much of a upgrade from the 1080.
So a 3090 really is the best option, unfortunately. Forced obsolescence through fixed function hardware, it's the future.

Part of it is youtube compression
The other part of it is buttholes using cell phones and gopros with advertised captures of 4k and above on their 1/4" sensor.
I watch a lot of stuff that happens outdoors and the foliage is always a pixelated mess.

          Anonymous

Oh yeah that's true. People think because their phone or gopro is advertising 8k or whatever that they've gotta be decent, but the result is worse than a 1080p real camera from 2010.

Then there's the type of buttholes that take the 8k studio professional footage and master it in 1080p.

But my main problem is YT compressing everything to shit and forcing AV1. Sure I'm a niche case in that I want nice video, but for normies they don't know how to force h264, to their laptops lag and overheat when av1 is the default.

          You mean AMD, or?

AYYMDEAD AV1 hardware decoder is limited to 8K 30FPS while Intel and Nvidia AV1 hardware decoder does 8K 60FPS

AYYMDEAD, always cutting corners to save die space while Intel and Nvidia always solve customers problems with real solutions

8k30 would be fine, hardware decoding sucks anyway, if AMD instead made a optimized decoder using GPU compute, that would be much more preferable (And applicable to all AMD cards from the last 10 years)

Unfortunately AMD is only really relevant for gaming due to Nvidia's software monopoly and sabotage.

Price scales at a ratio higher than 1 to performance at the high end. That said, we are in a stealth recession (low disposable income availability) and there is a massive glut of 30mgen cards. NVidia needs to keep their market share so they need to keep pricing lower to ensure they move new product with these adverse market conditions (thereby shafting aib partners with lots of old inventory on hand). I think $1600 will be the sweet spot for 4090 which will allow them to move a lot of inventory while still making high end 30 gen cards attractive purchases at under $1k. Expect more publicized whining like EVGA from aib partners as they get screwed with losses from 30 gen while NVDA prohibits markup on 40 gen

      Anonymous

yes. Typically you have to pay double the price for every 50% gain in performance.

      Anonymous

this is what I have been thinking, it makes the most sense. NVidia can't afford to look like the miser during a recession. Especially when your alternative is $900-$1200 for the 3090-4080 range which is already more than enough for most folks. There are still plenty of normies who are excited to find 3000 series cards in stock. Many. They remember them being $2K and unobtainable, now they're at or below msrp and readily available.

    nvidia is fricking done.
    i wouldnt buy their stock
they failed to sell 90% of their 3 series inventory because of demanding a 1000$ for a video card.

now they want to release a whole new series for even more money?

who the frick is gonna buy them?
all the "gamers" already have like 2070s. who would pay 1000$ for a 20% upgrade?

      Anonymous

      I can definitely see a super-expensive 4090.
I think the 4080 and 4070 will only be a mild bump over the 3000 series RRP though.
      >Nvidia will let 3000 series co-exist
Really doubt that they plan to do that officially or for long. Listing the old and new cards together sends the message to new buyers that they're both reasonable options, and says to existing 3000 series owners that there's no need to upgrade.

There are lots of people on 10-series cards (or older AMD cards) and desperate for an upgrade after waiting out the covid shortages and the mining boom.
I'm on an RX 580 and definitely in the market for a 4070, maybe even a 4080 if the price is sane.

Why in the frick would anyone with a 10 series card need a upgrade right now? I swear PC gaymers are the rucking dumbest morons on the planet. That should still be able to run games just fine

          Anonymous

10 series can still run every game, but they're getting a bit long in the tooth. If you have a 1080ti you're probably OK, but a 1060 requires significant compromises for recent games. And even the 1080ti locks you out of raytracing, DLSS, and other neat stuff that's exclusive to newer cards.
I think a lot of people assume everyone sticks to the same gen when upgrading, but that's not necessarily true. I bought a cheapo card a few years ago because it's all I could afford, but I'm in a much better financial position now and happy to splurge on something fancy.

DLSS, ray tracing, hardware decode for newer video codecs, better streaming performance, playing games at high resolutions. None of these are necessities, but they’re nice to have and reasons to upgrade.

Maybe I’m not the target audience anymore but there just isn’t high end games that interest me. Most AAA studios pushed out people who could make quality content and hired for diversity rather than capability, and it shows in their work.

AMD and Nvidia both just printed money with their BS jacked up MSRPs due to miners. The issue is nvidia got way too greedy with it and went balls deep into ordering more chips. I assume they figured worst case they would always be able to sell 3000 series to miners.
Yet with a few coin crashes and others ending mining, well well well.. now they have to come crawling back to gamers who don't buy entire pallets of cards at once for x2 MSRP. I figure at this point they will leverage their near 80% market share to still give gamers the middle finger. Being most will cave and buy 2 year old product for like $20 under MSRP or buy the new for inflated prices. We really need AMD to stomp on nvidia for a few year to get them back in line.

NVidia can cut prices of gaming cards in half and still profit. Data center and AI is their growth industry now, gpu’s is just their easy side income.

Clearly the 3090 TIs can be priced under 1k and nvidia will still make enough to make it worth their while. I don't know why you would think that they're done when they muscled out their biggest competition and stuck them with last gens cards. Yes, the AIBs are nvidia's biggest competition.

It might be a profitable move, but maybe not. Nvidia made a killing during the height of crypto autism and nobody really knows whether the fad has started to fade yet or if cryptards will successfully meme another coin into pseudo-relevance.
Crypto is basically the sole reason the massive GPU price inflation is profitable, there just are not enough consoomers willing (or even able) to pay $1500 to play video games. In comparison, console prices eventually sunk to less than half of this.

Nvidia didn't raise the official MSRP of any 3000 series card and the prices people actually pay has dropped very significantly for all ga102 models.

Nvidia did cut the official MSRP for the 3080ti, 3090 and 3090ti and their current prices are well below that for their FE models.

2080ti only had 11 GiB of VRAM and had an MSRP of 999$, now you can get a 3080 12 GB for significantly less despite years of inflation.

Did we forget the half-gen refresh when they added some vram and cuda cores and hiked prices on new TI versions with basically no extra performance? They only served to act as scalper bait. I think those variants also got the steepest discounts when those came around.

Why did this website play down the role of crypto and keep talking about scalpers last year? There were many heated arguments in defence of crypto.

Once you understand that the fundamental structure of crypto is to only act as a ponzi scheme, it becomes clear why it ever gets hyped up when it's rising and why it can follow technical analysis as well as it does.

The other half of the crypto problem was nvidia selling reference boards to chink board makers who would wholesale palettes of cards to crypto outfits.

You can assume direct control when there's combat, but other than that, yeah. And you can only direct them to build, and set their priorities. They have to do everything themselves (building, cleaning, cooking, tending to wounds, research, mining, etc).

$1540 would be a little less than what I paid for my 3090, and I paid that off with mining Ethereum in the first year so even though I think that's too expensive, really don't have much room to complain since the last GPU I paid for was my 980.

I game on 120Hz 4k as well as VR so I actually do have room for improvement on some titles that would justify the upgrade, but right now I'm actually most interested in seeing how much better it's going to be for AI applications, which was the sole reason I went with the only 24GB VRAM model this past time.

I don't think Nvidia will be that stupid to release cards that expensive. It'll just kill their stock prices. With crypto being banned in entire countries like China and India, and talks of it being banned here in America, releasing cards at that price point is only going to net them bad press. Everyone's going back to work. Parents aren't going to spend that much on their kids. The card could do 400fps in GTA 6 in 8k and nobody will be able to buy it. I'm not even a poorgay. When you price everyone out of your product, everyone suffers.

When nobody can afford your card, have
Game developers don't target it. It's not even a flex for us rich gays at this point. Not when a game can run exactly the same on a $400 card and look identical to a $1400 card, absolutely nobody will buy it. Not even people who demand the best.
      >Hey consierge buy this pc for me, I want to play every game on the market, just make it the best of the best
He's going to throw a 3090 ti in it and keep the rest. The rich gay won't know the difference. PCs are getting insane with their prices as it is. You're just alienating everyone.

        >PC's are getting insane with their prices as it is
What a stupid comment. 6 years ago a $1000 CPU had 8 cores. Now you're getting 16+ and the ST performance is like 40% better.

NAND SSD's are under $100/TB for crazy performance.

Just because the GPU market got fricked and DDR5 is a stupid idea doesn't mean "oh lawd muh pc parts be costin too much". Performance/dollar is waaaaaaay up

No, the problem is that GPUs are proprietary, so whoever has the monopoly is the only one that is supported.

CPUs all have the same "API", same set of instructions, they very rarely get new ones (but are always backwards compatible)...
If GPUs were the same way, using the same set of instructions, there would be much more competition.

It's fine for GPUs to have ad hoc designs if they can be run with FOSS. AMD and Intel allow this (AMDGPU-PRO is still nonfree but almost no one needs it).

I thought the temporal cancer couldn't get worse but they did it by leaps and bounds beyond my worst nightmares.

I did archive my website after the correct price prediction was posted.

why are console cucks so moronic all the damn time? Just buy a cheap as hell RTX 3000 or 2000 and be done with it, you'd still have a better system than any of the consoles

3000 series isn't exactly cheap, 3070ti and below hasn't really fallen below the original MSRP.

I got a 3090 earlier since 4090 didn't look very promising and the 3090 offered everything i wanted except displayport 2.0 (which will also be missing from 4090).
