He’s basically only jerked off by limp-wristed twitter fags who think posting a book a day with no substance to show off how much money they spend on books constitutes reading

Nah, but Vollman anon and his Americana loving room mate have left us and have probably been forgotten by all but me.

I get a nostalgic sadness when I think of all the anons who left. Many were recognizable by the books/writers they shilled and discussed. Now it’s a homogeneous mess with no fiction or poetry

The people get who they deserve. But I am still here even if I am no longer recognized and I am sure I am not the only one. In the current climate being recognized has serious faults but in the current climate almost no one here can recognize anyone who does not use a trip.

I had a false start of Fathers and Crows recently. I got about 200 pages in before dropping it. It took me a while to get the hang of his style. I thought it was good and enjoyed it but it wasn’t the type of book I was looking for at the time. I plan to give it another go soon

I enjoy his Seven Dreams series. I wish he would publish the last two books. I started Rising Up and Rising Down but I found it too riddled with typos and basically a straightforward survey of various historical events. I know in the later volumes of Rising Up and Rising Down he put some of his own reporting, but I got bored before I got to that portion.

Vollmann is that guy who refuses to have editors spell check him, right?

          >that guy who almost freezes himself to death trying to research the Northwest Passage

Right. He is one of the few people who will throw himself wholly into being a stereotype while everyone else pretends to be unique. He had an idea of what his ideal of a writer was and he became that and became a success at it, there is no pretense, no ideals; you know exactly what he views being a writer is and he is exactly that.

            >butterfly
That’s a little different. She was a target for obvious reasons as this board’s demographic shifted. I don’t think it’s bad to be recognized for literature you like, if it isn’t degenerate, or too out there

It is really not, most people spazed out because she played the game better than they did. She had come and gone from here for year and then one day an anon had a fit about here showing up here and other anons hopped on board. She was never any more controversial than any other tripfag until that one anon made her so and if we were not right in the midst of the original incel explosion on LULZ the butterfly freak out probably would not have happened.

i was around for peak butters and she was a boring (you) baiting dyke that would bump her own shit and or troll discussions. Only reason that idiot got any traction is because LULZ is glacial. Bitters tried the same sthick on LULZ and was rightfully ignored. Kys simp.

Breaking two ribs does not mean much regarding acting skills. Danial Day Lewis is ultimately Danial Day Lewis regardless of the role he is playing and he does not really forget that. But he does commit to his roles and he is always enjoyable to watch.

Does not really let YOU forget that. But it works both ways, one was just not what I intended.

                >Breaking two ribs does not mean much regarding acting skills
We were talking about method acting and he broke those ribs because he refused to break character and stayed in a wheelchair with a horrible posture and so on and so forth

I get that, but you brought up method acting and everything which comes with it. Vollman is absolutely capable of getting you caught up in the narrative and forgetting you are reading a Vollman novel just as Brando was capable of getting you to forget you are watching Brando despite his being an even larger personality than Danial Day Lewis. Granted Brando largely lost or gave up on that later in life.

lol. That was my point. She was no different and that is the fault I am referring too. That demographic shift was not just incels freaking out, it was also all the people who wanted to hide behind anonymity and so on. Butterfly was not unique, the board went up against everyone who could be recognized and I can only think of a few anons who managed to be recognizable during those times and they were ones who actively feed the retards what they wanted to hear. To be recognized now is to be Gardner, a self serving shill.

You know who disappears in his roles? Vincent D'Onofrio. Seen him in so many things without recognizing it was him.
What's the literary equivalent of that?

For someone who is well known but also changes drastically in style between novels, Pynchon, he can be recognized by theme if you read through the novel but his style is very subtle and difficult to pin down.

Most of his novels are very different in narrative style, we get some of the larger structures in common but that is about it.

Oh, I gotcha. I think anonymity went from being a good thing (you could develop your own style, interests, personality, whoever you wanted to be in other words)to being a negative thing (it’s just a homogeneous blob that could literally be bots, and majority of threads just turn into the typical my team vs your team tribal shitflinging). What was the deal with the first anon that had a problem with butterfly? I never followed the saga and we generally didn’t post in the same threads

Apparently LULZ does not like its history told anymore, no matter how I reworded it I always got "Our system thinks your post is spam. Please reformat and try again" so picrel.

I can offer you a hairy nipple if you really want it but that is about it. Would have been better if you asked a couple weeks ago since I had to shave my chest due to a reaction to something in the new soap I tried and the hair was preventing the medicated lotion from getting into the follicles where it was needed. Having a shaved chest was weird, felt like I was wearing sopping wet clothes. It was also difficult to figure out wear to stop shaving so things would not look ridiculous and admittedly I went further than just the chest in an attempt to balance things out and got a bit carried away.

I kind of feel dirty now and I am not sure how I feel about that. If you had just said "yes, I want a hairy nipple" I would have not given it a second thought and provided but now, now I really don't know.
