I have absolutely no idea why this is the case. CD quality only requires 180 kilobytes/second of bandwidth. Surely it can't be that hard to move that a couple feet wirelessly with current tecnhology.

        Anonymous

Bluetooth was originally made with extreme data efficiency in mind. Anything modern easily pushes 8mb/s over bluetooth, but the old codecs are still in use that try to crunch things down for transfer.

Nobody wants to make a new codec that actually takes advantage of what we have, because the current ones are 'good enough that most people dont care' and 'audiophiles just use wires anyway'.

I personally use them and I can confidently say that hands down they still suck ass because of the latency when used for watching video and gayming. They will remain that way until the LC3 codec is widely adopted. Wireless headphones are definitely the future now that they're achieving 20,30, and even 40 hours of battery life. It's just the latency problem that needs to get solved and the only practical way to do that is to lower the bitrate which requires a new audio codec else everything will sound like 128kbps_youtube_to_mp3.

      Anonymous

Proprietary standards have solved this already (AAC, Samsung scalable), but they only cover mobile devices.

        Anonymous

At the expense of higher latency. LC3 lowers both bitrate and latency since it's a codec optimized for bluetooth.

No, it doesn't. At least not in a way that matters. Mobile games don't need lossless audio and video lip sync is not dependent on latency. Stop spewing bullshit.

If that were even remotely true then all LC3 development would have grinded to a complete stop.

If you weren't a mouthbreathing retard, you would've read the actual LC3 specs and you would've seen that it has to make similar compromises to classical codecs for the low latency. Only LC3 Plus can offer similar bitrates to AptX scalable or Samsung scalable and it doesn't have the same latency requirements.

That's super fucking important because the thing that brings down latency the most is using lower bitrates. Low latency aptx obviously achieves this but it crucifies audio quality in the process which LC3 won't do.

              >lowering bitrate decreases latency
I'm not following this. Unless the issue is that theses protocols are loaded with copious amounts of overhead, or that the data can be decoded more rapidly, I don't understand how a reduction in throughput causes a drop in latency. In either case, you wouldn't describe those problems as "reducing bandwidth = reducing latency". Maybe I'm intuiting this poorly.

                >or that the data can be decoded more rapidly
Pretty much. That's why yify rips decode buttery smooth even on a 20 year old Pentium 4 PC. You can't fit a PC inside a pair of bluetooth headphones so cpu resources are pretty limited.

I enjoy the fact that wired headphones don't drop signal / no need to "sync" with a device, no latency, best sound quality, last indefinitely if you treat them well, no need to recharge.

They're just always there ready to be used. Used for extremely long periods of time with zero concern.

The definition of reliable, simple, and convenient.

Wireless makes sense for something like a mouse in which you are constantly moving. If I'm sitting at my computer my head isn't moving around that much so the wire doesn't bother me.

The wire is also less bothersome if you buy a pair with removable cable and have different cables for different applications (a shorter cable if you're using a laptop or phone for example, longer if you're sitting at a desk)

music is for sissies and weakminds, you'd have to pay me $$$ to allow some noise the ability to interrupt my thoughts all day. Of course I wish I could take the sound with me when I want to get up listening to a podcast but that is the weakness talking, everything deserves interruption except you.

Music is an integral part of the human experience. It is the oldest form of art (you don't need anything to make music except your voice). By hating music this proves that you are subhuman.

Quality isn't as big of a problem as latency.
Bluetooth is absolute garbage and it needs to die and be replaced with something decent.

Decent sounding wired earphones are a quarter of a price compared to decent earphones that are wireless. That, and BT latency sucks ass.

Yes I would love to shove fucking lithium batteries inside my skull. What a great idea!

The lithium polymer batteries in your picture are high discharge batteries used in things like RC cars.

      >strapping radio to your head
enjoy your cancer and a chance for painful injury if the chink batteries in your chinkpods decide to explode

The lithium batteries in consumer electronics are different- and the only real risk of fire with them is while charging if the protection circuits fail, or if they're violently damaged, not while they're sitting in your ears.

If you aren't trolling and really never listen to music it pretty much guarantees you have some major emotional disturbance i.e. borderline or antisocial PD, get into DBT or something before it wrecks your life, friend

    My phone has jack port.

    They distort and generally suck.
But then again, at least your audio jack chips don't fry when you accidentally plug a faulty cd player into it, thinking the jack is connected to the player's aux and not the speaker output.

I have never heard of that problem occurring to people before and I've done that plenty of times in the past. For some reason my phone chip lost most of it's volume and now distorts sound (i.e. it's damaged probably from high power because the player is faulty).
Regardless, bluetooth tends to bug out and wireless headphones haven't been better for me. And it suffers from quantisation/dithering issues.

no, thank you. The wired earbuds I'm using today are 10 years old and are still the same as they were on day one.

OK recommend some that are comfortable enough to sleep in, have a long battery life(the battery bank in the carrying case does not fucking count), a microphone that isn't torture for others to listen to, a reasonable price and a connection that never fails

Why would you sleep in headphones? Just use a bedside speaker.

    >Using headphones at all
I'm an adult. I listen to music on my studio system, my home theater, or my car stereo.
The only time I use headphones is if I'm on a plane.
I use wired because Bluetooth compresses audio, and I don't have to put up with that shit.
If you prefer wireless, you're clearly a child, or don't have refined taste in audio quality.

cable is way more reliable, and also wired headphones never need to be charged. Plus, the battery will shit itself in a few years, so no thanks. It's a shame that most ANC headphones are wireless
