I think the closest to the grandeur is the great mosque of cordoba but even that was more known for the large scale intricate moorish architecture instead of grandeur.

I was there the day after they reopened it as a mosque, all they did was cover up the frescos and whatever with big rugs or giant allah snackbar plaques. They threw a huge rug down across the main hall and make you take your shoes off. The rug is necessary to prevent stinky mudslime feet from touching the floor. If anything they were doing their best to protect it from homeless syrians visiting the place. The Hagia Sophia is a cultural heritage site, just like the Dome of the Rock/Temple Mount. The political entities that own these sites are wise to prevent them from being owned by any religious institution and to limit the religious services conducted within them to private individual or small-party worship. Parceling out such culturally significant sites to a specific religious institution or demographic just incites unnecessary division and damages the site's chances of receiving proper maintenance for posterity.
